It’s a sad day for sci-fi fans around the world in learning that Leonary Nimoy passed away today at 83. Last year he announced he had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and was admitted to the hospital earlier this week with complications from that. Sadly, he passed away this morning at his home. Leonard Nimoy is most famously known for playing the role of Spock in the Star Trek franchise.

Born in Boston in 1931, he started acting in local theaters at the age of 8 and eventually mad...

My wife is a mathematician by training but her wit is second to none. In a different life, I think she’d been a good comedy writer.  So I’ve decided to start tracking some of her quips.

This is all from this morning:

Me: You’re too good a cook. You’re making me fat.

Deb: And if I was a bad cook, you’d be complaining about that instead.

Me: And?

Deb: You’re like the Kobayashi Maru of food.

Deb: Every time we travel now we have to find people...

My daughter dropped her Windows phone Monday outside a restaurant after we had lunch and the its screen shattered. So, after work, she bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 to replace it along with another S5 for her hubby. Monday evening she filmed a video of her daughter (she's a spitting image of my daughter) and sent it to me. Well, the video quality sucked. It was compressed and raggedy. It was worse then videos sent to me when she used an iPhone. I reached the conclusion if I want quality videos ...

Today I received yet another call from the toll-free number that has been calling me on and off (sometimes multiple times in one day) for several months.

I had answered a call from that number during the first month's assault on my digits (after 4 or 5 unanswered attempts) and determined they were a 'third-party' calling on behalf (supposedly) of my carrier.  They asked if I was satisfied with my 'plan' and if it 'met my current and future...
The Internet is toxic, but its toxicity is usually equal opportunity

One of the more annoying trends in our society has been the substitution of action with rhetoric.  This has really taken off in the age of Twitter where people think hashtags are a replacement for actually doing something.

Today I read an Opinion Piece on Polygon called “No Skin thick enough: The daily harassment of women in the game industry”  by a woman named Brianna Wu. It's an article I recom...
The Scarab brand has been reintroduced this year with the launch of 3 new jet boats. These jet boats are the spiritual (and in many respects, literal) successor to the Seaddoo line of Jetboats that BRP discontinued at the end of 2012.

layout), the 195 (a 19 foot model) and the 215 (a 21 foot model with 2 Rotax engines).

As a current (and happy) owner of a 2011 Seadoo 150 (and occasional user of the Seadoo Challenger), I can say that the general build quality of the new Scarab line is s...

The picture below shows my latest attempt at growing a pineapple plant.  We’ll see what comes of it, but I do enjoy trying to get fruits and vegetables going, even if it’s in just a simple container.   I would really like to have a nice garden where I could plant several things, but where we live now really doesn’t give me a lot of opportunity to do that.

Does anyone here keep any type of garden, and what types of items do you have in it?
