Just occured to check in my Vista snapshot to see if TGA thumbnails were visible natively - appears not.
Thumb Plug TGA available from http://greggman.com/pages/thumbplug_tga.htm is an old standby for making TGA thumbnails visible in XP
Is this still a preferred option for XP, and what if anything is the preferred option for Vista?
Another year has passed! It's that time of the year again where we look back on last year and do a post mortem on where skinning has been and where it's going. You can see last year's here. 2007 was a pretty big year for skinning. A sucky year but big nevertheless.
What is skinning?Skinning is the process of customizing the look and feel of something to your personal taste. If you could change the shape and color of your car, you could say your car was skinnable. Over the pa...
Heya guys and gals
I was just wondering if any of you RightClick users/skinners have found a way to set some kind of minimum size for all menus?
Guided by Lantec, I've managed to keep the 'main' menu at a minimum size by manually setting a value for TightItemWidthBuffer in the .menuskin, but the submenus doesn't obey these values.
Example:
Lifehacker featured two apps associated with Wincustomize today!
Logon studio got a nice plug as did Nubs, created by our own andrew_
Congrats all!

Looks like it's gonna be a bad day. I just looked at my download stats and my rank is 666. Looks like it may be a good day to stay inside.
I have been trying to catch up with some of the tutorials and documentation I have been writing on WindowBlinds 6. I put out a new one recently so I wanted to take the time to post a list of some of the most recent ones. If you have WindowBlinds 6 this will give you a good, basic understanding of how to use and configure some of the basic settings of WindowBlinds.

MyColors Theme Manager in action.
To go along with the CursorFX theme editor tutorial I recently wrote, I also wanted to do a screencast that actually shows some of the process that I describe in the tutorial. Both the screencast and article show how to create your own custom cursor using CursorFX.
Making a Cursor with CursorFX
Note: Frogboy edited his original post to make it visually easier to read, therefore some of the quotes are from the original draft and not available through the link.
This is not intended to be flamebait, just to kick off a friendly discussion. In response to Frogboy's "The changing world of skinning communities"
I think had I chosen to post the article around the consequences of entering the wider market, that Frogboy made on behalf of Stardock, and if I believed that the sum t...
Today I present the final part of our Ask a Moderator series. For the last four weeks, I've been putting questions, submitted by the community, to the folks who help keep this site humming along day-in and day-out so you could get a better picture of who these people actually are, and why they put so much time and effort into WinCustomize.
With this being the final set, I'd like to thank all of the moderators who participated, and all the users who submitted questions. I hope ever...
Well my monthy edition of Windows XP: The Official Magazine published by Future Publishing Limited arrived today. Interesting that a British Company is the sole authorized publisher of a Microsoft magazine, they also publish one for Vista by the way. Wonder why MS couldn't find a US publisher? Hmmm.
What's interesting is that it's included disk this month has a section for Customization which includes, get this, ObjectDock and WindowBlinds. How about that sports fans! (I just loved Mel...
Is there ANY way to get rid of microsofts "Branding" at the bottom of the logon screen???? or hasn't anyone figured out how to do it yet???
Skinning first started getting popular around 1999. Back then, it was mostly about skinning Winamp and WindowBlinds. Today, people expect to be able to customize virtually every aspect of their PC experience. From the moment someone boots to the time they shut down, everything a user sees they now anticipate the ability to personalize somehow if they choose to.
In the beginning, the content came from the community. The software itself was developed within the community as well. A given ...
