I posted the blog below about two weeks back as a prequel to my commentary in my post on the solution for poverty.

"Breaking news!  The world currency exchange bank has announced that things are looking uncomfortably like 2007 all over again.  People are reportedly bidding up "asset bubbles" right and left in a desperate, frenzied attempt to beat the odds and get something - ANY positive return on their money.  A few people at the top of these multitude of instant pyramids jump...

On Friday, the White House (President Obama) published a statement commemorating the 10th annual International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, May 17th.

May 17th was also Armed Forces Day, a Federal Holiday established during the Truman administration to honor our military members for their patriotic service.  The White House statement commemorating Armed Forces Day and reminding us to honor...  oh, wait.

I applaud Charles Barkley for having the balls to defend his right to speak his mind, using whatever words he chooses, and to point out, rightly, that 'white America' can't dictate how he speaks or what he says.

Unfortunately, he is enough of an unwitting racist that it's a one-way freedom in his mind - in his opinion, only black Americans can use that word freely.  White Americans must first be granted permission by black Americans to use it and then only in a setting an...

We as people
are constantly engaged in threat assessment.
When we look around, we evaluate people and things around us.  We use information get got from our
development to classify something as threat or not a threat.

There was a
time when grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and members of society told
their children to watch out for black people.
The children who received these messages used them and passed them on to
their children.

Today, I was
reading an arti...

So sad.  And infuriating.
As discussed here, the climate models that predicted a rapidly warming earth continue to be way way off.

The measured results and the projected results are way off. I’ve received a lot of grief over the years from friends, family and colleagues because I’m a global warming “skeptic” (particularly about AGW).

Now mind you, I drive an electric car powered by a solar array and live in a house heated and cooled through Geothermal and had a gold rating from the NAH...
I was reading a forum discussion regarding a car shop owner who lost his temper with a customer and berated them (hurled a bunch of profanity at them). The customer filed a suit against them for emotional distress. I couldn’t find a link to verify if this is even a real lawsuit but the discussion itself was illuminating.

One of the participants said that they hope that the car shop owner “gets taken to the cleaners”.

Really? This is the society these people want to see? Someone being ...

All the gun control advocates are on all the Sunday shows and some of them might be well meaning, but they are totally misguided. Ask a liberal gun control advocate something like, "what new law would have stopped Eric Harris from sawing off his shotgun on both ends, transforming it into the deadliest close range weapon imaginable?" Since sawing off a shotgun is already a felony in most states and no one is even including the deadly close range shotgun on the list of weapons to be banned, they w...

Argh!  Double Argh even.

I so want to say something, but I really can't, at least not to the parties that I'd like to say it to.

In this particular case, knowing some sensitive information leaves me so wanting to pass it along to some folks, and yet, well, I can't.  I'm sworn to secrecy and for business reasons, I really do need to keep things that way, but it doesn't mean that I don't want to and don't feel the need to tell someone else that they real...

Isn't it against the law for them to work without that sign? Isn't the sign mandated by some gov't agency? Did anyone bother to check if there were any women on the crew? I hate this PC crap. If everyone was actually working nobody would have time to worry about this shit. Personally, I think anyone employed by a college oughta take offense to the "working" part of the sign instead of the "men" part.

A couple of articles are showing up in the current news cycle, though these are not really "new" in the content within:

{Washington} Examiner Editorial: If top 5% paid 40% of taxes, what is their 'fair' share?

The Millionaires Who Pay the Highest Tax Rate

In answer to the first question (headline), the answer is not "more", though that is certainly what the occupant of the Whitehouse, and many of his Democrat brothers and sisters want us all to believe and act upon.

The secon...

Let me start here by saying I am not a member of the bakers union, have never worked for Hostess, and really don't have any inside information and only a little of the history of the situation, but I find myself completely mystified by the lack of ability for the union(s) that are involved with Hostess, and the company itself, to find a solution to the problems the company is having.

Yet again it seems that the union is dead set on watching their members lose their jobs rather than giving...
I’ve been watching the fall-out from the destruction of Hostess.

I’m not going to get into the “blame” game other than to say it’s kind of dumb for people who go on strike to be shocked that they lose their jobs.

What I will get into is the never-ending stupidity of complaining about CEO pay.  Americans have no problem with paying athletes and entertainers tens of millions of dollars annually. But they rage about people getting paid a couple million for running a multi-billion dol...

If you get harassing blocked phone calls or anonymous emails, do you call the FBI?  And would they do anything but politely tell you to go pound sand?

To me, the strangest part of the Petraeus business is how the FBI got involved in the first place.  Supposedly, if the story is to be believed, a private citizen who claimed not to know what the anonymous hostile emails were about managed to persuade the FBI to go looking for the source.  Nothing I've read indicates she (Kell...
