I went to a very interesting Answers in Genesis Conference.  This is one I would recommend to everyone regardless of belief.  Carl Kerby was the speaker for AIG and he was terrific.  He's not a Scientist but is someone very dedicated to the subject matter, on the board at AIG  and has been studying this for years.  He goes all over the world giving these talks and is very frank, approachable and struck me as one who really is down to earth in every which way . ...

We've been discussing quite a bit here on Evolution Science vs Creation Science and the differences in interpretation and free speech for those who have a diff take on this interpretation of evidence.  Recently I came across this article which gives a realistic view of what kind of politics a Creationist Scientist is up against in the Science field.  When you read this keep in mind that the journals Science and Nature are considered the two best journals in the world to publish in...

I would just like to clear up something for future discussions about Evolution vs Creation Science.  There are some things that are agreed upon and others not.  So I thought I'd list them for future reference.    Creationists do not dispute: natural selection microevolution variation within species existence of fossils extinction genetics homology (as proof of a common designer) Creationists reject: millions of years earth history megaevolution: mole...
If I had more free time (and I hope to acquire this free time in the future as my schedule lightens up in early 2010) I would like to make something that does this: A device that you would connect to your main power box in your house and then sends a wireless signal to your PC telling you how much power your home is using in real-time. This data could then be shared, in real-time with on the net to a friendly website that would display with graphs your monthly power usage and compare it ...

In my book, George W. Bush Robin Hood For The Rich I talk about the need to shift to laser type weapons rather then the point to point star wars systems Bush has been pushing. In June 2007, Scientific American had an article about the development of the Beam type weapons that use solid-state lasers that can produce a beam of 100 kilowatts. The systems would have an “infinite magazine” of low cost shots that could be used to destroy incoming artillery and mortars shells, missiles, d...

Should an IT guy's hair matter more than his skills?        A while back I was thinking of moving jobs because my current employer had shown no great enthusiasm for raising my pay despite the fact that I had just become worth a great deal more than I had been through the miracle of professional certifications (CCNA, CompTIA + certs, etc…).        A bit of Monster.com activity produced a satisfying level of activity from all over ...

It is nice to see that simply being a Slashdot nerd doesn't disqualify you from understanding nothing about the rest of the world except for the sure and certain knowledge that whatever "authority figures" say HAS to be completely inverted.      If "they" say terrorists exist then the world must instead be filled entirely by altruistic pixies who would certianly never wish harm on anyone anywhere. Tales of war are either exaggerated or fab...

Sorry I'm a bit late with this recommendation, but if you have the opportunity to catch any of the series (6 episodes total I believe, probably will be repeated numerous times as just about everything on the Discovery channels winds up that way) Mars Rising please do. It is an indepth look at the perils and technical hurdles that stand in the way of manned space flight to Mars.  A completely fascinating look things average citizens wouldn't even consider as issues that have either ke...

Looks like the electric car is making a comeback- introducing the ZENN (zero emissions, no noise) there's a couple of detractors that prevent me from buying one right this instant but it sure as heck isn't the price. It's affordable, green and has specs that almost make me want to buy one tomorrow. Almost. Below I will give my pros and cons of the vehicle, check it out yourself at http://www.zenncars.com/ The reasons I will not buy this car today : maximum ...

Did anyone watch 20/20 tonight? A portion of it was on Global Warming. Now what? How much more can they say about this? It was on the "Gimme a Break" section of the show by John Stossel. He's usually pretty common sense so I watched. FIrst he showed the ads that are nothing but scare tactics and then onto the school children, also scared from watching these ads and listening to their parents reaction watching these ads. Then onto Hollywood with Gore sharing his award with the ...
I see the phrase "just a theory" thrown around a lot recently in regards to global warming and evolution(which is better dubbed as a model).  I'd like to give a better concept of what a theory actually is when you're dealing with science. From the OED: "A scheme or system of ideas or statements held as an explanation or account of a group of facts or phenomena; a hypothesis that has been confirmed or established by observation or experiment, and is propounded or accepted as accounting...

Federal Court said Bush Violated Environmental Law U.S. District Court Judge Sandra Armstrong ruled that the Bush Administration violated a 1990 law that REQUIRES an updated plan every three years on Climate Change. The last update was issued in 2003. She ordered Bush to submit the required plan by March 2008. The results from research on ice cores that were drilled 2,000 feet down in the Antarctica with ice that was 800,000 years old show the rate of global warming is many times fast...
In the Eastern part of the United States bald-faced hornets are pretty common. They make large, spherical nests in trees and elsewhere. The are black with white faces and are quite scary looking. But before you go to try to wipe them out, consider this - they are generally pretty docile, don't harass people, and have cool looking nests.  Not enough? Okay, they eat pests, most notably, they eat yellow jackets. A lot of them. Yellow jackets are one of the most annoying bugs out there.&n...

For the last several weeks, I have been traveling in the Middle East on journalistic assignments. I thought I should alert G2K members to one of the most remarkable people I've encountered in my very long journalistic career -- His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the UAE's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Almost single handedly he created he created the country's Higher Colleges of Technology 20 years ago, and it now has 16 campuses around the UAE, and some 20...
Remember all that data showing how 1998 was the hottest year on record.  NASA, which was a major source for this data, quietly updated their stats due to a measuring bug.  No press release about it (for obvious reasons) and they haven't bothered to correct most of the graphs on the NASA site. But here is the latest from NASA's site on average temperatures: Yea, the great depression when everyone was driving in those big old SUVs.  Meanwhile, temperatures during the boom...
