So, here's the setup, kiddies. I was skimming through the forums and noticed the 5,673rd article on evolution vs. Intelligent Design. Something in the title rattled loose a bearing that had been stuck in my head for a week (see, I get these killer blog ideas when I'm walking along, but once I get to the library, they get stuck in the ether up there somewheres and I'm lucky to get them back...but I digress). You see, evolution and intelligent design are NOT competing theories, nor should th...

Science is a systematic study and analysis of the natural phenomena with a view to discover the laws governing the relationships between/amongst:- i) various forms and states of energy, ii) direction, acceleration & quantum of the forces released by energy, iii) space, and iv) time. Viewed this way, everything-- even blackholes, fall into place. Blackholes convert matter into energy and store the same. Prof. Gulshan Bajwa [email protected]
Gotcha! Since my propane regulator broke on me, I've decide to build another burner for my furnace. I'm constantly refining my furnace and burner by a complex scientific process known as "tweaking." This time, I think I'll build a choke for it, to allow better Oxygen Control. I'm also going to see if I can smooth the end of the burner pipe, and maybe add a ventura (reversed cone, like the base of a rocket) to slow the flame down and improve the burn. In the mean time, I've decided to g...

The Hurricane / Flooding of New Orleans should be a good wake up call to the US for the near future. IF water levels were to rise 3 feet over the next 15 years due to Global Melting most US coastal Cities would be in the same situation of needed levy systems and sea walls to protect themselves from rising water levels, let alone hurricanes. The government, State and city of new orleans new about this potentiality years ago. It was written years ago about what a dead-on stike by a 'c...
Ouch. I'm out for the count this weekend. No source o' fire. So no foundry stuff. No smithing. How did this nefarious state of affairs happen you ask? My gas regulator broke. For those of you who don't know, a gas regulator controls the pressure coming from the source (in this case my propane bottle) and prevents changes in pressure from doing nasty things like causing explosions. It stuck way way wide open, so until I can get one, say Tuesday....... I have been thinking about switching...
Most people are aware that politics can affect how history is recorded. But every scientific endeavor suffers from such things.  In biology, zoology has gone through the same sort of thing.  When you are dealing with anything subjective (and lots of things in science is subjective) politics come into play. And few things are more subjective than organism classification.  With that said, zoologists have a basic classiciation system. It's not perfect, but it is accepted and that'...
Today on the Netscape homepage, I saw an interesting article on a newly created "android" from Japan.  The robot's name is "Repliee Q1".  This robot is apparently intended to be used for customer service or something like that.  The features are that the robot smiles, blinks, and appears to be breathing. Something this life-like is a little scary (like a wax museum), but it is still interesting to see.  I wonder where we'll see the first one of these in-use. ...
We have so many alternatives in life. The one we have decided to pick up dictate what we are now, and the ones we will be making dictates what we are in the future. Some call it Path of Life. Some dub it God's Will. I call it Construction of Our Live. But we are not discussing about philosophy here...okay, it will be a little bit philosophical...but not as much as some other blogs out there who has their contents and comments full of philosphical thoughts. I'm inspired to write th...

Found this on wikipedia.com ( Link ) and i think it would be awesome...IMO it would propel(sp) technology forward, and make nasa return to its former glory days...I would volunteer, but not exactly a prime quality candidate... Mars Direct is a proposal for a relatively low-cost manned mission to Mars with current rocket technology. The mission was developed by Robert Zubrin and David Baker and is detailed in Zubrin's book, The Case For Mars. The plan involves launching an unmanned...
According to USA Today, NASA is suspending all shuttle launches until the problem with the foam surrounding the main fuel tank can be corrected. This was the cause of the Space shuttle Columbia disaster, and has also endangered the current Discovery Mission. A peace of foam was photographed shearing off during the Discovery liftoff and astronauts are checking the shuttle for damage. NASA has used foam to insulate the large rocket booster without incident since the beginning of the Shuttle ...

It started as a visit to a town called Virac, Catanduanes in the southern part of Luzon, the Philippines’ largest island years ago. It was already known as a typhoon corridor facing the Pacific Ocean and it was really the faces of friends I knew there devastated by their loss from the recent typhoon that etched in my mind. Their once lovely neighborhood of assorted galvanized iron and nipa huts ,with the exception of some coconut trees, became just one desolate beach. Since then I’ve rum...

The title statement was a comment on one of my threads about atheism and science. And while it was a true statement, it bears mentioning that the same could be said of the atheistic position. Indeed, it is my contention that, absent faith of some sort, the only intellectually defensible theological position is agnosticism. Atheism is as absolutist a position as is any religious dogma, and its defenders should be subject to the same standard of proof as Christians, Muslims, Jews, you name it. ...
Since the close of World War II, we have lived under varying degrees of fear regarding the possibility of a Nuclear or Biological war, where weapons could wipe out huge chunks of the world's population very quickly. In recent years the fear has shifted from a massive attack from a foreign superpower (i.e. the Soviet Union) to one lunatic dictator just sending off one or two towards places like London, Washington D.C., NYC etc. The nuclear menace has given way largely to the biological one, ...
Eternal Life, Almost? A friend was telling me about an article that was posted on the Live Science / Human Biology Hang in There: The 25-Year Wait for Immortality The article states that we are approximately 25 years away from the science to live in excess of 1000 years. The article states that “our human genomes will be modified to include the genetic material of microorganisms that live in the soil, enabling us to break down the junk proteins that our cells amass ov...
