Well for the first time in 4 years I have dropped under 170 pounds.  My slow diet has a total of 11 lost pounds in 11 weeks. The main thing I’ve been doing is greatly reducing my liquid calories. I was not aware of how many calories I was consuming by drinking juices and pop a day until I measured it. The other thing has been a family-wide re-design of our dinners to be much lighter, healthier and frankly tastier.

I've been watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution and it really points out some major issues we need to address as a country.  How do the kids have a chance when all of the adults in their lives are overweight?  Parents, teachers, nurses, doctors...right on up to our Surgeon General are overweight if not right out obese! As a parent, I know that kids learn what they live.  If they see their parents playing sports, they're going to want to play sports.  If they see their pa...
About 10 weeks ago, I started a diet called 10 pounds in 10 weeks.  I was 180 pounds. 10 weeks later (technically 11, I took a week off for a trade show) I’m down 10 pounds. I’m going to see if I can get down to 165 pounds (another 5 pounds).
Today marked week 4 of my pound a week diet. I started at 180 and this week I weighed in at 175.8 pounds.  I’m definitely not an over-achiever. I find it easier to lower my calories than I do exercising.  When I get home from work, I’m tired. I don’t want to work out. And I’m too lazy to get up early enough to go running.  I do manage to get some working out in during the week but no where near what I had planned to do. Probably the best thing I’ve done is stop drin...
2009 sucked. There. I said it. Deaths. Stress. It was just a bad year. And I gained weight.  My ideal weight is 165lbs.  I’m now 180lbs. My goal is to get to 170lbs in 10 weeks. 180 179 178 177 176 175 174 173 172 170 Each Monday I’ll weigh myself to see how I’m doing and update this post to display my shame (or progress). Since it’s a pretty modest diet, here’s the basic plan: Get 10,000 steps at leas...

Clove sticks and stems that is! I just came up from working out and I saw one of my buddies at the front desk. He was sitting down checking out this large pile of brown stuff. I said hello and walked on over and he asked me if I knew what it was he was picking through. I told him I had no idea and he told me that he had a big pile of cloves and the sticks and stems they grow on sitting in front of him. Cloves are actually the flowers of a plant if some of you didn't know. He picke...

Overall, the steps and principles adopted by the firm show a high similarity to the recommendations made in the literature. Additionally, the reengineering proved extremely successful for the group. While these conclusions can not be generalised to all small firms without further investigation, they indicate little difference in the requirements for small and large firms for successful reengineering of their processes. Furthermore, the lack of certain factors did not have a serious effect on the...

Yesterday at the store I saw a package of Eggland's Best eggs labeled "From Vegetarian Fed Hens". On two levels I am disturbed by this. The first is that chickens would have to be force fed veggies or deprived of their natural diets to be vegetarian. I have a choice to be "unnatural" if I want; a chicken does not. That chicken is either getting supplements or is malnourished. I don't believe that most vegetarians would support either option. The other thing (and this invalidates ...
Day two of my keep on moving goal, I got up early yesterday morning and did some Yoga!  It felt good to stretch this old curvy body! (yeah, curvy! ) I got up and did Yoga, worked with my dumbbell's, and jumped rope!  After work I ended up at the gym my husband Michael hangs out at, with Adam and Amanda and we played table tennis for a while!  It was fun and I got even more exercise in! For the day I ate pretty healthy, oatmeal and coffee started my day.  I...
Green Salad that is! Or as some say, Tossed Salad.   I usually like mine with some type of meat, Chicken basically.  Unfortunately I forgot the meats at home today!  I gave the greens a liberal coating of fat free dressing, and made like a sheep in the meadow! (no way am I going to say Cow!)  Not too bad, rather enjoyable! I've begun the steps I usually take towards continuing my weight loss plan.  I bought all the healthy stuff. Fruits such as grapes, apples,...
You would think that after my year, last year of success in losing some of the fat, and learning to eat right and all those good things, that I would never make a mistake such as the one I did yesterday! As you who read my blogs know, I didn't give up my weight loss plan, but I did give it a rest during the holidays (what else is new right?!) but being the realist I am, that was the thing to do!   In comes the first day at work.  Packing lunch was so much fun because I...
I started back in September on a 7 week diet.  With a beginning weight of 176, my goal was to get down to 165.  This is the first diet I've ever really been on. At first, it went pretty well - a pound a week.  But around week 5, I hit 171 and have not managed to get past that. To lose more weight I have to overcome one primary obstacle: Cold weather.  While I have a treadmill and elliptical at home,  I much prefer to exercise outside. So when the weather starte...

Eating a couple apples a day may significantly lower one's chance of developing heart disease, reports a study of health benefits of fiber consumption. In an evaluation of 10 studies measuring fiber in the diets of 91,058 men and 245,186 women over six to 10 years, nine out of 10 studies reported an inverse association between fiber consumption and risk of heart disease. For every 10 grams of fiber consumed per day, the risk of developing heart disease decreased 14 percent, and the risk of...
My wife and I got home from a romantic weekend and I discovered to my dismay that I was at 176 pounds. Now, my ideal weight is 165 given my height (5 foot 11) and this was the heaviest I've ever been. Mind you, it's not the health issues or even how I look, it's the clothes. I don't want to have to buy new clothes.  So it's diet time. Let me tell you a few things about dieting that you probably already know: Going from 2 cokes a day to water is not fun. Exchanging ...
