I'm really growing sick and tired of "reviews" from PC gamer and other rags who give games I really like bogus and totally unfair scores and games that are just total BS, good ones. Case in point, Ghost Recon is one of the most fun new games I've played in a while, yet PC Gamer in all their grandeur gave it a 6.7... In my opinion, that isn't fair. Then the same illustrious PC Gamer gave Resident Evil 7 a 9, and went on to rave like a drunk on a street corner about its greatness and i...
They say timing is everything. I keep being told that #gamergate started as a harassment and threat campaign.  Maybe they’re right if you treat #gamergate as having started years ago when people under the guise of “Social Justice” started harassing and threatening people they didn’t like.  I don’t just speak of myself.  What is happening now in the gaming community has been building up for years.  So let me be succinct: People have the growing, creeping feeling th...

I have been a customer for awhile and have bought all the GalCiv, GalCiv2 stuff, plus a couple of other things (SOFSE),etc.  During that time I bought via stardock central which then went to gamestop and steam.  My stardock games seem to be spread out all over the place. I am confused on how best to buy future stardock stuff?  For instances FE, should I do steam or try the stardock store/client...again? Just curious what others thought.

So around the beginning of February our LAN gaming group had been struggling with what we could find to do for 6 of us. We had been working on SWTOR, we'd been playing SoaSE, Star Trek Online and a few other games but it wasn't quite as cohesive as we wanted. Having 6 players there weren't too many games we could all play and not everyone had our beloved Sins of a Solar Empire. I knew a few people had played Tabletop RPGs but it was mostly D&D. One day the topic was brought u...

Anyone else around here playing this? Here's a little background for the uninitiated. Just after a little-known card game named Magic: The Gathering appeared on the scene, another card game by Richard Garfield came out called Netrunner.  The game features two sides that played vastly differently from each other, so differently in fact that you could not use one side's cards in the other side's deck AT ALL.  This was a collectible card game. Fantasy Flight Games rec...

Scathing reviews are abound of Diablo 3. And the gaming media immediately rallied to bash consumers who make their displeasure unknown. By printing strawman arguments and then "debunking" them. The strawman is that people are entitled whiners who cry about DRM that was necessary to stop the EVIL PIRATES! TM. Even though the real reason for it being online only are obviously the micro transactions from the real money auction house, as well as the destruction of second hand market. But if th...

So, it's been a very long time since I have posted anything on the SD forums so I thought while I had time, I might try to get back into the swing of things...   So, while I have been preparing for my upcoming school year (a Master's in Game Development), I have been playing through my game library again. This lead to many revelations on the interesting things game developers have tried to make games in common genres different. Some of these ideas have worked well while others...

What’s with all the hype? The game looks like it sucks. All this time and this is the best they could come up with? Even the graphics look crappy for a game being developed for this long and with all the graphics that games like MW3 and Battlefield 3 have. Can anyone point out what’s the deal? Does anyone really think it’s worth buying? I surely don’t. To be honest I’m sick of the advertising, all the attention from every tech site I visit, good and bad. I think this game will bomb and only the ...

I was watching the Sony E3 press conference last night where they unveiled the latest portable gaming system – the Playstation Vita .  The graphics looked pretty good in the demos, and saving to the cloud and resuming on the PS3 was also a nice touch.  I’m not a big portable gamer, but I’d definitely like to try this one out.

Who would have thought that someone would use a game like World Of Warcraft (WoW) as a tool for exploitation? Who would have thought anyone would be forced to play a game like WoW and somehow the enforcers would financially benefit from it. According to this Endgadget article that is exactly what a former Chinese prisoners complained about as he explained how the guards would force the prisoners to play WoW for 12 hours a day and then take the loot collected in the games and sell them onl...

Haven’t seen much talk about this game on these forums, does anyone here play Starcraft II? Care to share your stats? Maybe your experience with the single player mode? I enjoy the single player much, am currently trying to beat it in Brutal difficulty. Let me say it’s not easy, especially for a guy who is not very experienced in the online multiplayer. All those keyboard shortcuts I haven’t learned yet would make the Brutal level so much easier. What about Starcraft II casting, does anyon...
