I first learned about Wordle on Facebook when I started seeing all these strange-patterned images show up on my feed. You would think that, with me being a word person, I'm inherently good at games like this, but the truth is...I'm not. I am routinely trounced in Scrabble. I may have an absolute lexicon of words floating around in this head of mine, but ask me to scramble limited letters around to make one and I come up dry, apparently! If you're unfamiliar with the game, it's a daily word pu...

I have plenty of fond childhood memories of building things out of LEGO bricks with my family. Even in my adulthood, I find that I still enjoy building the occasional set - but it's a lot less freeform than I remember! I prefer to follow instructions and create what's laid out for me; I never had enough creativity or visual foresight to build incredible things from scratch without a guide. Fortunately, there are plenty of people who exist out there who don't have my problem, and build incredi...

I love how absolutely and utterly ridiculous cats are. The old cat meme "if it fits, I sits," rings true almost 100% of the time. I know that my own cat will wiggle her way into positions that my body starts aching just at the mere thought of. All this is to say that I take great delight in seeing what kinds of shenanigans animals get up to when left to their own devices, which is the case here. I found an article while browsing on Gizmodo about Starlink's Internet satellite dishes and how...

When you think about objects that you can invest in for hopefully high returns, you tend to think of things like gold, jewelry, art, antiques, and so on. A new study from the economists at the Higher School of Economics in Russia recently released a study that presents a new and unique lucrative alternative: Lego sets. Throughout the course of their study, the economists discovered that the market prices of the retired Lego sets sold on the secondary market grow by at least 11% annually, ...

A cube-shaped object has been spotted by scientists working on China's Chang'e 4 mission on the far side of the Moon. Pictured below, you can see the object standing out against the blackness of space, practically begging in the Yutu 2 rover to come over and examine it.  While the object is probably something like a displaced boulder, scientists want to complete their due diligence and fully intend to send the Yutu 2 over to investigate. Our Space, a Chinese language science outreach...

England is getting a new high-speed rail system installed - which, for certain parts of the world, perhaps hardly constitutes news, but it's what some archaeologists found while digging that caught my attention.  Three Roman busts and other rare artifacts were unearthed at the site of a former Norman-era church in Stoke Mandeville, a village located about 46 miles northwest of London. The excavations at the site had already been underway for about 7 months when the statues made their sur...

While the games that maintain the top "popular" slots may not always be games that we agree with, we have to admit that they hold those slots for a reason. I will even confess to having played a little bit of Epic's Fortnite game, only to find myself pleasantly surprised with how enjoyable it was.  That doesn't mean I have any interest in watching a movie about it, but here we are. According to The Information, Epic Games is considering the idea of expanding into the entertainm...

Found out yesterday that Chris Jake Thake, known as Jakeco here on the site, has passed away from throat cancer. He lived in New Zealand and was an avid user of Windowblinds skins. He had problems his whole life, and had to use voice to text as he had no arms either. I knew him for several years, and he was always positive! May you truly Rest in Peace Chris!

It is called Blue Ball and it is stuck in the basement, attic, on the elevator, escalator... could someone please give it a push?  Thank you!
So I turn 50 this year.  It's an arbitrary milestone but such milestones gives us an opportunity to take stock in our lives. I wrote on my Facebook page that I get frustrated being a failure.  My friends and family were quite worried and I should have given more context to my feelings which is what I am going to do here. We all have certain personality traits that can get in the way of accomplishing what we want.  Maybe you just want to lose some weight and you just can't...

It's been a long time since I've been around. Just thought I'd see how everyone is doing. So...Hello! How is everyone doing? And isn't time for Wincustomize to do a refresh? It looks the same as it did 20 years ago. Which could be a good thing I guess?

Is Earth ready for a potentially catastrophic asteroid impact? Unfortunately, the answer appears to be no. An international exercise to simulate an asteroid striking Earth is finished, and with its fictitious impact concluded, things aren't looking so hot for the 185-mile stretch between Prague and Munich. It sounds like a game, but it's actually serious business. The exercise is being led by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Center for Near Earth Object Studies and is meant to prepare sc...

We discussed last year how many travels plans were cut due to the pandemic, so I thought it would be fun to check in and see if anyone has started making any travel plans yet. As I mentioned in that post, we had several cruises cancelled, and took a break from planning for at least the rest of that year. Since the cruise industry is still being shut down by the CDC, we hope that lawsuits by the state of Florida and the pressure from other governors and the industry associations will get thing...

Image courtesy of NASABack in February, NASA's Perseverance rover landed on the surface of Mars. Perseverance is equipped with all sorts of amazing tools and gadgets - including the first ever Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity. Originally, the helicopter was scheduled to attempt its first flight early Monday morning, but data that NASA scientists received late last week have caused them to postpone the flight to no earlier than April 14th (that's today - wonder if we'll get an upda...
