Way back in the day, there was one of those totally awesome RPGs called Autoduel, which was based on a board game by Steve Jackson called Car Wars. Well, NCsoft Link is making a game, which is what I would envision an Autoduel remake!. I just read the review of the game in Computer Gaming World magazine and it looks to be an almost right on knock off of the SJG classic! Looks like custimizable cars and even arenas to fight in later on. Now the question is, will there be an RPG eleme...
In this month's (April 2005) issue of Computer Games Magazine there is an article I've written about my 8 year old son, Alex. It's about his adventures as a Night Elf as part of our guild ("MythInc") on the Uther server in the game World of Warcraft.  World of Warcraft isn't perfect, I know I have a long list of issues with the game. But it is, overall, a fantastic game. And for my son, it's a real thrill.  Him and his younger brother (Ryan, 4) will pretend to be playing the game even ...

My shortlist of best games of all time include Shadowbane, I played it for about 2 years, but haven't been back since early last year when I gave it up. However I think about it often, in this day and age of watered down MMOs with weak PvP-Lite, and crappy experiance grinds, Shadowbane really spoiled me to how things should be in these games. Shadowbane was a huge commercial success early on, selling 170,000 copies, however overcrowding, and sales exceeding the technical ability of their serve...

In a sad bit of news, Wish is folding up after a successful open beta. Details are sketchy, but rumors are a major financial backer pulled out. With some UO style PvP, I think there is little doubt this game would have been a success, certainly most UO people would gravitate towards it. But they seemed to be more insistant on trying to be like WoW or EQ, instead of oldschool UO with full open PvP. With that being said, some of the systems in place at Wish, far exceeded things in WoW. Alway...

Last night I did a stupid (perhaps more then one, but I'm only talking about the one here). Some background will be needed for this to make sense, so background time it is.        Some friends (should they read this they will know who they are and can name themselves if they so choose, if they don't read/name themselves it's not my place to and won't change what I am saying here) gave me Star Wars Galaxies as an early...

Well I sucessfully downloaded Anarchy Online today. As BlueDev mentioned they are doing a free for a year thing, so I figured I might as well try it. 817 megabytes did take a while to download, although BitTorrent did make it easier. Install went fine and all, and I now have three characters sitting in the arrival hall.        As usual when games give me a choice, my character is a girl. Looking through the availab...

In what I can only imagine is a push to get players, Funcom has announced that their Sci-Fi MMORPG Anarchy Online will be free until January 1, 2006. The three expansion packs Alien Invasion, Shadowlands, and Notum Wars are not included, but can be added on for a price. The best part of the offer is that no credit card is required. If you elect to not put in any billing information your account will simply freeze on 1/1/06. I haven't ever played an MMORPG simply because I don't have the ...

So where to start? Every tale must have a beginning, but most do not start where they begin. There is a background and situations that bring about the beginning of the tale. So here we shall set the stage for the tale that we shall tell. Or I shall tell, you don't get to tell it, it's not your tale, it's mine        A long time ago in the far away land of Dereth... (cue flashy music) Towards the end of 1999 this ...

Tonight I was reflecting on the problems with the current MMORPGs, and why I’m not happy with them.. World of Warcraft(WoW) is a good game, in the traditional sense of MMOs, its probably the best “Standard Template” MMO out there. But that doesn’t mean it’s free of issues, or filled with vision…One of the biggest problems I see with WoW(and traditional MMOs), is that they have an exponential levelling curve.. Meaning level 10 is about 100x+ stronger than level 1, and the result is, at level ...
