"A Week at the Gym" This is dedicated to every woman who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine. Myself included lol ,...... Dear Diary ... For my fiftieth birthday this year, my husband (the Dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me. Although I am still in great shape since playing on my high school softball team, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a ...

When a person says, "I want to loose weight," they are misleading themselves. Losing weight alone does not necessarily mean that one is losing fat. One must learn to differentiate between the two. When starting a new weight loss program, the average person will lose a significant amount of weight in the short term, usually their body is adapting to the new lifestyle change and will usually lose a lot of water. This is especially true if that person is new to exercising. They will think th...

THERMOGENICS: Reality Check - there are no magic pills that will give you washboard abs in a week or two. There are however, some high quality thermogenics that act as a catalyst in helping one to reduce bodyfat. One thing to keep in mind when searching for the right thermogenic is to take all the advertising hype with a grain of salt. This is particularly true when it comes to timelines. In almost every advertisement you will see people who claim to have lost tremendous amounts of bo...

"The weights, the gym, the training, I can do that part in my sleep; it's fun and relatively easy. It's the other stuff, the dieting and supplementing, that demands the discipline." Those words, I hear allot as I talk to people that wants to work out, and that is working out in local gym's here in eastern Kentucky...And the lady's has this belief that you must cut out all food to loose weight...and lady's think that weight training is going to make them BIG & BULKY where they get this "crazy"...

Which burns more calories, running or cycling?. The standard comparison is that one mile of running equals four miles of cycling, but that's lousy science. Although running requires the same amount of energy per mile at any speed (110 calories per mile), riding is affected by wind resistance so the faster you ride, the more energy you use. So you have to compare running and cycling at different cycling speeds. Dr. Edward Coyle of The University of Texas in Austin determin...

SIT-UPS TO MAKE YOUR BELLY STRONGER Sit-ups can strengthen your belly muscles, but doing them incorrectly can hurt your back. Sit-ups should be done while you lie on your back with your knees bent enough for the soles of your feet to touch the floor. Place both hands on your chest and slowly raise your head off the ground. Then, slowly raise your shoulders around one foot and then lower them to the ground. Do this slowly ten times, rest a few seconds and then do two more sets of ten. Af...

Happy days! Elden Campbell is buying out his own contract with the NJ Nets to return to the Pistons. New Jersey picked up Elden simply so that Detroit couldn't, and then left him sitting on the bench the whole time. The two great Elden things I've missed this year: his Barry White voice, and his classic 'I just fouled(?!)' face. I can't wait. The team is obviously walking on air to have their buddy returning, and high morale makes them even more unstoppable. Look out, Shaq.

I went Skiing for the first time ever yesterday, and my experience was absolutely amazing! Before I had gone, all I heard about were stories about how people had broken bones or how badly I was going to do, but when I got out there, luckily, I was a lot more excited than I was scared. That was the confidence I needed to tear up the slopes! After only about an hour on the bunny slopes, I was already advancing myself to the higher hills. The friends I had gone with were already expert skier...

When you talk about "Going to second base" with a girl, you mean you went to the stadium and ran halfway 'round the infield When you remember more than 5 starters for any pre-1995 Seattle Mariners team (or pre-1990 Astros team). When you've gone to any city just to see the stadium. When you place a radar gun over the baby's crib. When you can calculate a pitcher's season ERA to the thousandths place at any start after the All Star Break When you name your child Willie, Mickey, or Duke (Or...

Well, I've been peeking at my beloved M's as they prepare for the season. They made some good offseason moves to restore the team that flopped monumentally last year (if not for Ichiro, NOBODY would have tuned in the M's game after the all star break) to the status of perennial contender they had previously enjoyed since 1995. Adrian Beltre, Aaron Sele, and Pokey Reese would all have been good additions individually, but put them altogether (along with the return of former closer Jeff Nelso...

So Barry Bonds has finally come out and talked to the media, this time not under oath. He felt free to lash out at the media for dogging him and speculating that he didn't actually earn the home runs, the MVP, the other many awards and accolades that have been lavished upon his long career. Link Unfortunately, he doesn't deserve any of them. Yes, they were his arms that swung the bat. The arms pumped up by chemicals, hormones, and various foreign and human-made substances that were injec...
This morning as I was driving into work, I heard excerpts of Barry Bonds' press conference.  I have been thinking about it all day, and it has been making me a bit angry. What I gleaned by listening to it was: it is the media's fault that athletes are getting caught "making mistakes", and that he must be doing something right because 50,000 fans show up to "boo" him each night. I think that Barry Bonds is making a mistake that a number of overpushed "heel" pro wrestlers make.  Bo...

I swear...people around here thinks that our school sucks but honestly, it's one of the best in the state. We usually get atleast two state championships and score in the extremely high percentage of the state-wide compentency tests. PLUS, you can take bowling as a unit in gym!!! How frickin' cool is that? I've only bowled two games but my average as of now is about 140ish which isn't that bad for a person who doesn't go bowling much. We also won our first match today because the other t...

Got that? Good. While I am firmly entrenched that believe that Jose Canseco's steroid allegations have been greatly overhyped in the interest of selling a book, I am astounded by the collective apathy of the owners and the commissioner's office. This concern is founded on the fact that baseball has always established itself as holding a moral high ground because of its position that gambling is its unpardonable sin. Steroid use is as bad as gambling, in many ways worse. With steroid use, a...
