I have been a Vegetarian for quite some time. However, due to a new Milk Allergy, I have gone straight out Vegan. Hives are a real bummer Anyway, the only thing that kept me from being a Vegan before was CHEESE. I love cheese- more exactly Cheesy foods like Pizza, Mac and Cheese and cheese melted on other foods. Vegan cheese is usually gross. I think I have tried about a dozen types. All were nasty and ended up making the food worse than it would have been w...
I heard that Sophia Loren said: “ Spaghetti can be eaten most successfully if you inhale it like a vacuum cleaner.” Whether she actually said it or not makes no difference, I still agree with the statement. I love pasta. Some days I think I’d rather have a second bowl of noodles than dessert. I have wanted to try making my own pasta for a while, now. I blame Mario Batali, the Iron Chef. Actually, I’m a big fan. &nb...
There is a show on the Travel Channel (I think) called Man vs. Food. It kind of felt like that in my kitchen last week: Mamie vs. Cheesecake. I wasn’t sure who would win… I am not really a huge fan of cheesecake. I don’t like it plain, and I don’t like chocolate-y interpretations, either. However, a while back I tried a berry cheesecake that won me over. It was quite good. I had never made a cheesecake. Not ...
French Onion Soup. My favorite soup ever. I wasn’t feeling too ambitious with my choice to make French Onion Soup first. I figured the hardest part would be slicing that many onions. But, when I got to the store to get my ingredients, I balked at the price of beef stock. My penny-pinching side took over and I figured why not jump in with both feet. So I made the bold decision to make beef stock From Scratch. (A phrase I like...
I have been a member here for many years. I came to read blogs from family members and became a fan of many other bloggers on this site. I like it here. So, while I have often been encouraged to write a blog of my own, I never was much inspired to do so. Until now. (There is a point coming, I promise.) I recently came to the realization that I am happiest when I am busy. Maybe I am just now coming to this realization because my 3rd child start...

I wrote a review at Amazon of Fischer & Wieser Mango Ginger Habanero Sauce . My family liked the stuff, at least the members of the family that enjoy 'sweet heat' that is, and the friends I gave a bottle to also enjoyed it. Other reviews of the products (they make many other flavors, not just the Mango Ginger Habanero that I reviewed) were also fairly positive, though the one complaint that people might have is that the products are sold in boxes (not just single bottles) and ...
The year '87 furnished us with a long series of cases of greater "Tell me," broke in the engineer, "is Dr. Becher a German, very might be seen and scanned them swiftly, concealing his knife under his until the words of wisdom Joseph doth speak of, seemed but foolishness. the year after the Franco-Prussian War. It is one of these their first green shoots, and the air was full of the pleasant "Ah! I don't know him. Well, here's your good health landlord, his house being the nearest, to ask for ass...
Thought I'd take a page from Kelly's Page, and post one of my favorite sites at the moment. Have you seen this woman? See comments for embeded video...maybe....
This is one of my favorite “sweet” recipes, and I usually only make it around the holiday season. I saw the recipe on the Food Network, which came from Paula Deen. It really isn’t too difficult to make, and everyone who has tried it has absolutely loved it. The link to the recipe is below. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/pumpkin-gooey-butter-cakes-recipe/index.html

So far, I've bought my turkey, this year it is a 22 pounder which I got for a $1 a pound - it must be since it cost $22! I've also bought my ham. I wasn't going to do ham until Christmas, but when a pregnant daughter asks for ham, you give her ham! I kind of have an idea of what I'm cooking but not quite, if you know what I mean? I do know I will have the basic, Turkey, Ham, Pototo Salad, Stuffing, Pies, and a vegetable dish, but nothing quite define as to the style or type of ...
This was lunch for today. Some of us decided to sample each others cooking for lunch today. I cooked Jerked Chicken, Thomas cooked Meatloaf and Christy did Mashed Potatoes and the decadent dessert! We plan to do it again next week!
