Review: One Second After

One Second After is a fictional story in which the United States is attacked by an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) weapon.

What’s scary about EMP weapons is that they’re not far-fetched. When a nuclear explosion takes place in the upper atmosphere, it rains down a huge electromagnetic pulse that will take out most electronics that aren’t hardened specifically for it. That means your car, your electricity, everyone else’s electricity, and all your gadgets are fried.

I know that my blog is about graphic design but that better type of design medium like a comic book. I try to only read comic books that are Indy because they don't hold back and you don't come in on issue #689. Comic books always have had a cool graphic style that nothing else really has had. Now even the new movies coming out now are starting using styles that comic books have. That’s beside the point because what I wanted to really talk about is the comic book called Sky Doll. Sky Doll ...

So, I want to write a book.

Not just a story, but an actual book. I don't know if I want it to get published or not, somehow I doubt it will. But I'm not one to do anything by halves, and this isn't my first excursion into writing (Follow the link if you want to see my other works, Trooper is my favorite). However, my previous works have evolved from simple scene descriptions, or RP character profiles. I want this one too be different, I want this to be a well thought out world, with a purpos...

Who doesn't like a good pirate story?  Actually, me.  I mean, I didn't mind a pirate yarn until Pirates of the Carribean III really spoiled it for me.  Then I read an anthology called Fast Ships, Black Sails edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer and my interest was revived.  The book is put out by Night Shade Books which is quickly becoming a favorite publishing house of mine.

I read the book two months ago but still have the stories lingering in my mind.  For me, th...

Test Drive: 2008 Audi TT Coupe 3.2 Quattro - Comfort Despite the TT's adjustable suspension, it's a good bet that typical TT buyers looking for a stylish boulevard cruiser will find even the Standard mode too jarring. Coupled with its short wheelbase and low-profile tires, the TT tends to disagree with freeway expansion joints and rough roads in general. It's friendlier than sports cars like the Porsche Cayman, but those looking for a smoother highway ride will want to look elsewhere (or at...

Chapter 8 As soon as we shot out of hyperspace there were starships and cruisers all over us. I about started shooting at them, but Bud stopped me saying,“Wait, look at the markings…”I noticed that they weren’t the markings of the Terran Military; the markings were all as different as the ships surrounding us. Some of them looked like they were about to break apart. Some you could hardly even see, they were so sleek and black.“I can’t believe it; my old ...

I have been reading a lot lately and just wanted to share my thoughts on a few books I've recently read.

"Belle Weather, Mostly Sunny with a Chance of Scattered Hissy Fits" by Celia Rivenbark - Hillarious stories by the southern female Dave Barry.  I think I will have to look for her other books now.

"A Fatal Waltz" by Tasha Alexander - This was probably my favorite of the bunch.  I love suspense and mystery novels and also historical fiction.  So what could be better...

Chapter 7

Crack! Boom! Crack!
We were pummeled by laser fire from the huge Cruiser.
“We can’t take much more of this!” I yelled.
“Then get us out of here!”
“What do you think I’m doing!”
“Even given the circumstances, I’m still your superior officer!”
“You won’t be anything if you don’t help me!”
“What do you want me to do?”
“Get to one of the gun emplacements,&rdquo...

Somewhere in outer space

As we rocketed away from Kulbar towards Earth we worked on the walker. It was a mess; I had never had the chance to get a close look at it. There were hunks of metal lodged in the armor across the front of the walker. One especially large chunk was stuck in between the forward cannons.
“How are we gonna get that out,” I asked.

Chapter 5

From the moment we reached base we were in trouble. The men there knew that a walker had been taken, and they were prepared for the enemy to engage them. Good thing they thought that the enemy had tried to draw them out, and not us. But this made it hard for us to get in. They had the base on full alert; every man was out trying to catch the enemy.
We made it over to the rocket launch pad with ease. The hard part was to get a rocket, and to load our walker into it.
“How ...

“You’ve got to make a distraction so I can get out of here.”
“You can’t move anyway!”
“I have my ways.”
“Well what should I do?”
“You can get them all out of here.”
“Well, How??”
“Tell them that a chemical bomb exploded, or that the enemy has forced his way in…”
“Well I’ll try; you just get out of ...

“Jack you need to finish this!”
“I will soon, Dentrin.”
“We need to come out with something soon, or they’ll shut us down. Do you realize that it’s been over a year since we’ve had a new ship or technology?”
“Yes, and this will solve both problems.”
“It better.”
Jack headed over to the large hunk of metal sitting in the middle of t...

Chapter 2

When I awoke, the next morning, I nearly hit my head on Bud’s old bunk.
I gotta find Bud!
I had slept in my armor, and I was sore, so I took a quick shower. I put on a white shirt and some army edition khakis with boots.
Then I ran down to the Medical Wing.
When I found him I shook him from his sleep. I know I shouldn’t have but I really need to get his attention fast, before I forgot who the guy was.
“Bud! I know who the guy was!”

Kulbar, Kulbar System

I’ve never been in a more hellish place. From the moment we landed, we were in chaos. Just the rocky terrain its self tries to swallow you up in huge crevices. We’ve lost over a hundred men, to the land alone, over ten thousand, to the enemy. This was Intelestar War II, and the enemy was getting the best of us.
I tried the Comlink, but all I got was static. I was too far away. I’d nearly lost bud a couple times, and w...

I am using this space to announce the beginnings of a complete, uncut zombie survival guide that a friend and I are writing. It will include everything that has to deal with surviving the zombie apocaplyse. And it will include our sometimes twisted humor, as well as references to pop culture. (Expect a massive amount of Shaun references.)

So far we have begun researching the various weapons that could/will be used. This is, as of now, broken up into three different categories. The M...
