The type of (PC, Xbox) games I have enjoyed and their general genealogy are as follows. I wish I had my Atari 800 or 1200 ... oh well. I first got hooked on Unreal Tournament when that was the whole name (and all the versions up to present). From there I branched out to other shooters like the original Half Life (and all the versions up to present). There were a lot of these around like Doom and Castle Wolfenstein that were iffy to me. Eventually my teen age Son got me to playing Left 4 Dead (an...

I realize this is old, but I'm wondering whether people have read this article and what their opinions are on it.

Yep, thats right folks! One of the best FPS franchises is coming out with their fifth installment. This one looks like it will explore the dramatic Pacific Front of World War II, something no game in the series, including expansion packs, has done. Needless to say, this game looks good, judging by the trailer, and on the premise alone. Hopefully, we can expect another console favorite from our friends at Activision.

Well, as some of you may know (I guess it depends on who all is reading this), Valve reciently dropped it's most recient "Mega-Update" on the game Team Fortress 2 . For those of you that don't know by now, Valve has been slowly adding new unlockable weapons and achievements to each of TF2's nine classes. The first update was for the Medic. This one was for my favorite class, the Pyro. The Pyro update has done three types of things, which can be devided into catagories as follows: ...

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is the second game in the Enemy Territory series. It takes place in a near-future Earth following an invasion by the half-man half-machine Strogg. The premise of the game is primarily an objective-based siege style game, where a defending team fights an attacking team. The gameplay is solid and proven, with balanced but different teams. For instance, the Strogg Technician gives both health and ammo to his teammates, while the Human Medic and Covert Ops take the sam...

Ok. I've been playing Tremulous online a couple days now (I like the PureTremulous server), and I decided to write a review of it. All categories are to a maximum of 5. Action: @@@@@ Tremulous excells as an action FPS, even if the strategy slows it down a tad. Strategy: @@@@@ Tremulous takes the traditional weapon/kit loadout and adds building buildings. Way cool. Community: @@@@ Tremulous has a good community, and is easy for newbies. Occasional swearing, but not muc...

Yes...I've recently bought a new rig, and today attempted to put Crysis on there and play it on the highest settings. Yes, I also failed. Not only did I fail, but I had the humiliating experience of having to switch the settings to LOW before it was playable. Note that this was a completely unpatched version of Crysis, so it will improve once I patched it, but the experience taught me a lesson, as well as giving a healthy blow to my pride. Never attempt to buy the best PC and run the most C...

I finished Star Wars: Republic Commando not too long ago. I found the game to be highly enjoyable, although there were parts that were really tough going for people like me who don't have "console fingers" or teenage reflexes. However, the game tells a sufficiently-compelling story that one is drawn to complete the game. This is a Jedi-free game, with the exception of a mention of Yoda at the end and a dead body with a lightsaber (that your character can't pick up). The game tells the s...

My original plan for the day was to skip Spanish at 2:00pm today so that I could be at my computer exactly at the time which Valve/Tripwire unlocked Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 (released through Steam -- and here is the game's Steam site ). Unfortunately, due to the fact that I had to write a few papers before 4:00pm, that was just an impossibility. I still skipped Spanish, mind you, but it just wasn't quite as warm and fuzzy of a skip as it could have been. Any way , once I got back t...

I'll be completely honest you with: I really wasn't prepared for the amount of time which this list would take to write in its completion. I forgot that whenever I do something like this, I go all out by writing little novels for each of our lovely winning titles. Anyhoo, let's have a big round of applause for game number seis in this fiesta of fun. F.E.A.R. -- Publisher: Vivendi Universal, Developer: Monolith F.E.A.R. was one of the games that I came into 2005 with high expectatio...

Despite the slight delay in getting today's entry in the ever-popular top ten list, I'm happy to say that I'll have this up and you in a position to be reading it before midnight, so therefore, I win. So, in the name of brief introductions so I can have this little puppy up in time, the following is what I feel to be the ninth best game to be released in 2005. Battlefield 2 -- Publisher: Electronic Arts, Developer: DICE While I have no official stats to back this up I'd go as far to sa...

I got my hands on F.E.A.R. yesterday, and had beaten it by midnight. Overall, I'd say the game has about ten hours of gameplay, which gets pretty action-packed after about forty-five minutes and doesn't let-up until you finish the ending sequence. I will say that if you're any "good" at FPSs at all, then you should probably play through the game on Hard or, maybe, even Extreme difficulty. The slow-mo in the game makes the enemies pretty damn easy, and after playing through it on hard, I reall...
