A few months ago, I found myself in need of some new tires.  Like most people, I bought two tires, and kept two of the older ones on my car. At the Sam's Club tire center, the guy working there told me that they have to put the new tires on the back (of my front wheel drive car).  He cited some sort of statistical research that says that cars which have the rear tires changed have fewer accidents.  I acquiesced, but in my mind I was thinking: "Whud 'ju talkin' bout ti...

You know, living in Cairo I see some of the most amazing vehicles travelling the roads. Some taxis here are over 50 years old! I have a small store of motoring jokes and acronyms (some related to these antiques), and I hope you can contribute some more for me. Here goes: -FIAT means "Fix it again Tony!" -Skoda involved in accident: Bounced Czech! -Why does a Daewoo have a heated rear windscreen? So you can warm your hands while you're pushing. -ALFA means Another little Fiat Asshole car...

As many here on JU will attest, I owned the ugliest, worst car ever. Nice car when it was made, but time and neglect wore it down to the hulking mass of steel and bondo that they saw pull into the parking lot every day. I drove a '74 Cadillac Coupe De Ville. Now one would think, "sweet ride" or "how could that car be horrible", but let me attest to you that it was true. We called it the Beast, the Boat, or best yet, the Albatross. Before I ever got it, it had been given t...

MSNBC did a survey and let their readers choose the ugliest/worst car ever. Too bad I don't much care for their surveys. (Though you can see the results of their poll in their original article: here ) That being the case (me hating on their survey), I'd rather have an unscientific poll here, via JoeUser.com, where people can defend their choice, or slam other folks choice at their own will. The question is, what would be your own choice for worst and/or ugliest 'American' car ever...

Link Just thought you guys would be interested in knowing there is a very informative Impala Forum out there. This site is dedicated to the 2000-2006 Chevy Impala. Stop by and say HI! or if you have a question about your Impala feel free to ask away. There are engineers, mechanics, "SHOW-ERS" and "GO-ERS" that are more than happy to lend you a helping hand! I am a moderator over there at NAIOA.com, and I've heard that a lot of people are looking for Impala Forums, so I thought tha...
Two days ago my family had an interesting day with cars. I went to the bank during lunch time to make a deposit. After finishing up, my car wouldn't start! I had to call a tow truck to bring my car to a garage. It seems that my alternator had broken, and was taking charge out of my battery. So I got that fixed... The interesting thing about this story is that when my wife was leaving the house to bring me home from work, she noticed that she had left her headlights on all day, and her ...
We are trying to get our cars registered and inspected here in Maryland. What a waste of time. First of all, it takes 1 1/2 hours to complete the inspection. THEN the emissions test. Then take the proof to the MVA and wait... in... line. Then pay through the nose at each step of the torture just to enjoy the privilege. Then get into another line to get your actual drivers license. This is for two drivers, two vehicles. My wife figured that all told, we'd be down about $5...

Now that I get to stay home with my dear daughter, Jaysen and I were looking at ways to cut expences. We decided to become a one car family. We sold my car on Thursday night. Jaysen will take our car to work, so now we only have to pay insurance on one vehicle. Plus now that I don't have transportation, I won't be tempted ti go shopping when Jayna and I are bored!!!! (That should save on spending! hehehe) I have never been with out a car, so this will be interesting!
ModerateMan did a blog recently about the cost of gas in everyone’s area. I didn’t get the chance to respond to it. It’s $2.37 in my neighborhood. What got me thinking was a news report (on Channel 7-ABC) last night about gas prices and a story about some truckers who had a strike in Miami. They went on strike to protest the high cost of gas and what it’s doing to them as they try to earn a living. It’s wreaking havoc because now to fill their tank costs $500 - $600 each time. That’...
I have a 94 Ford Explorer 4x4. It has a lot of miles on and I know I should expect some trouble. My Check Engine light came on last week and I tried to diagnose the problem myself. I bought the little computer reader and plugged it in. Only one problem, I was more confused after I plugged it in than before I started. I called my mechanic yesterday to ask if I could drop it by his shop so he could look at it today. I went over with my wife following in her car about 5pm yesterday afternoon. We...
If you don't know, GM is having some troubles lately. It would seem to the point of pulling ads out of a newspaper because the editorials are calling for their heads as far as being a valuable company. So what is their plane, in particular with Buick and Pontiac? Businessweek Auto: GM's New Order Well, it would seem that both brands will get a reduction in how many cars they will have and their will be a channel combining of which will align GMC, Buick and Pontiac in the same dealersh...

Michigan drivers are not polite. Each state seems to have its own character of drivers.  Michigan drivers rank amongst the most annoying because of their mid-western tendency to be passive aggressive.  For instance, the turn signal is an indication for car behind you and in another lane to speed up to cut you off.  By contrast, in California, residents seem all too willing to drop back to let you merge with them.  On the surface, this may seem like a good thing.  B...
I read an article by Dianne Hales in Sunday's Parade magazine regarding what the type of car you drive says about you. I must tell you, I’m a bottom feeder. I’m never gonna get up there at the upper level, the echelon of the haves or the Jones who have it all. Your car tells others who you are and how well you are doing. Yes, those wheels of yours are sending a message about you. Whether you want it to or not. My husband and I own three cars. We don’t owe any money on them, th...
