Stardock's CEO Brad Wardell talks to TIME about why gamers will love Windows 10. "In DirectX 12, every single one of your cores can talk to your graphics card simultaneously,” says Wardell. “So in our benchmarks, going from DirectX 11-optimized games, we’re seeing between 85% and 300% performance boosts.” Those kinds of leaps, any way you want to slice them, are huge. Mind you, the game has to be written for DirectX 12, something you won’t se...

Thing is.....the game is great for sure........but what I find best about Anno 2070 is actually the game's UI.  I have played so many (too many) RTS/Strategy games in my life with (by comparison) absolutely horrible UI's so I just had to pause playing to post about it. UBI / BlueByte have done something really right with Anno 2070 and I hope it continues in Anno 2205.  The UI is fluid and informative without drowning you in unnecessary information.  I'm fi...

I think there’s a special place in hell for people who spend 90 hours playing a game only to tell others that it’s not worth playing.

PC Gamer lists both Galactic Civilizations II and Sins of a Solar Empire in their list of the best strategy games on the PC!   Galactic Civilizations 2 "If you’ve ever wanted to conquer space with an army of customisable doom-ships, this is the strategy game for you. Stardock's Derek Paxton wrote an opinion piece for Polygon on paid mods, which has become a hot subject with the recent introduction and subsequent retraction of paid mods on Steam. "I began as a modder by creating the "Fall from Heaven" mod for Civilization 4. That led me to working with Firaxis on developing two scenarios for their Beyond the Swordexpansion, one of which got included in the base game, as well as creating the Modder’s Guide for Civilizati...

" As we've learned over many years of strategy games, the real-time strategy genre is replete with creative possibilities. Last month during the Game Developer's Conference, I chatted with representatives from both Oxide Games and BonusXP Games about their current strategy projects, and the visits were pleasant reminders of how a single genre can provide a framework f...

Starcraft requires a great deal of skill to play.  But not all races require the same skill level to play.  For example, a Platinum Zerg player is probably more skilled than a Diamond Protoss player. Having both worked on and played Starcraft over the past 18 years, below is a rough estimate of the skill level difference between the different races. Explanation This chart is, of course, subjective.  I’ve played all the races for many years and love them all...
