After graduating I went to North Dakota then Houston to look for work. I didn't find anything so I am trying my luck in China. It is going well here. Just coping with the smog which means waking up feeling groggy/ with a sore throat. The situation is not getting better in the states-jobs available are for waiter and other jobs, a complete waste of time.
After nearly 2 years in China, I went back to America to get my MBA in International Business at the University of Toledo. I decided that I would be a lot more marketable for employment with China on my resume and a MBA. Besides, I was young and had the time and the money to go back to school now. Why wait when I am older and have more responsibility to go to school? I enjoyed my international business courses and learned a lot about money management. Not just for a business b...
Between my grad and undergrad year I went to Shanghai. My first time living in China. I realized living there and traveling there is completely different. My other first impression was that I was not the only one studying Chinese and interested in business. I know it sounds sheltered, I was sort of different for having such a major in college. But in truth is Europeans, Australians and Kiwis are all studying Chinese and are damn good at it. In 2010, I realized that the days of...
I began to learn Chinese from my early life. My baby sitters in were of Chinese decent. They did not know English so they spoke to me in Chinese. Just like how many children with Hispanic care takers learn Spanish. I learned and practiced Chinese with them my whole childhood even though I didn't want to. It was not until later on I did not see the possibilities available to me in both government and the private sector with this language ability. Though my accent will always be a fo...
This is my first blog for this site. I am a newly graduated MBA student starting my career in China. I am currently working for Kerlin, a Chinese managed German built green energy firm for the next few months at least until I find a job in logistics and supply chain management, a field I am more interested in. I am in the marketing department at Kerlin. My primary responsibility here is to focus on improving their website and finding other consulting firms in the west to work with u...
It’s been an emotional month here at Stardock as many of our friends of many years get ready to move to Dallas (where Gamestop is relocating Impulse). It’s going to be a bit of a ghost town for awhile here with so many people going. We’re a place where there’s virtually no turn over. So culturally, having even one person leave is a big deal. So you can imagine what it’s like to have a dozen+ leave all at once. I myself am going to continue to lower my hours, p...
When things are tough, what are your sources for coping? Here’s a brief list of mine. My wife My kids My sister-in-law The people I work with Learning new “Tech” Internet Communities Learning new things Helping others Passing on skills to others Reading a good book.
When I came to Dubai nearly four years ago to write a book, the great financial crisis that was to afflict much of the world had just begun to take shape. In the event, one of its most notable victims was this tiny Emirate, a city-state that had risen out of the Arabian littoral’s unforgiving desert and become a global metropolis in barely two decades. Its economy was hit hard, and it is still recovering. Now another crisis is in full bloom – the popular revolt in Egypt ...
Country singer Trace Adkins had a hit song in the last few years that was aptly titled You're Gonna Miss This . The lyrics in the chorus go something like this: You're gonna miss this... You're gonna want this back... You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast... I was thinking of these lyrics yesterday when my former father-in-law was getting ready to call up 911 to get carried to the hospital, unable to straighten his leg because he was in too much pain. My son trie...
I took my kids to go see the Gabriel Iglesias show: " Fluffy Shop Tour " tonite. Very funny guy and excellent show. How much of that show would show up in future tour stops, I'm not sure, as he seemed to react well to a few shoutouts from the audience that might otherwise have thrown him off his game. For such a big guy (he's not Fat, he's Fluffy!), he was rather nimble on his feet and quick to respond to and get himself back on track for whatever story he wanted to tell, or wh...
Snow in Arkanas! YUCH! Always a hot mess here when there is snow! Arkansas roads dept are just not equipped to deal with winter wather! Snow day for school which royally pisses off my nerdy 15 yr old daughter who LOVES shool. We have a boarder right now. I placed an ad several months ago for a room mate and wound up with a temporary boarder who travels for work. He stayed a few days a couple months back and he got another job wireing up the computer system for a new bank ne...
I've been back in a bit of a writing rut lately... every now and then I think of something I might want to comment on, then something else pops up and I wind up getting sidetracked completely and forget whatever it was that I was considering writing about. It isn't like there is nothing going on in the world and yet it seems that what is going on isn't all the impressive or thought provoking. Yet again, I hope things change though in a positive way as we really don't need more traged...
Today is the day! I have been thinking about blogging for a long time now I finally got started!!! YAY ME!!!! I have to finish getting ready for work and start my day I'll be baaaaaaaaack! JoeDeafMama!
A 'friend' read this and thought, 'I'm not alone'. It changed quickly to 'I wasn't alone' and then back to 'I am alone...even more so.' And he returned to the hole/circle he lives in and vowed again to keep his mouth shut and put his happy face back on. Sometimes, you choose to live with and in the ' darkness' because it's all you know...it's comfortable, familiar, and 'it' knows you so well. The Agonizing Last Words of Programmer Bill Zeller Bill Zeller was a tal...
Silly NBC... airing a repeat of Chuck tonite while CBS has new episodes of their Monday night comedies. My daughter will be happy watching the new shows there while I'll have to settle for watching repeats or hunting down something else in the guide since I can't watch a new episode of Chuck and have no real interest in watching a repeat of it. I really wish NBC would start airing Chuck "non-stop" in a similar manner as FOX had done with 24. No repeats during the season, just a...
