I'm a fan of classic computer role-playing games and I can get into some of the so-called "action" RPGs. On two separate occasions, I've dug out my copy of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion in an effort to see what all the hype is about with the profoundly accoladed title. Each time I've gotten, frankly, bored with roaming around without seeming to have anything to do. My last effort, this past weekend, saw my Argonian avatar travelling from Chorrol to Skingrad, which took a lot of real-world time (...

To be a good guitar hero, it's important to understand how the game works.  For instance, do you know how the game decides how many stars you get on a song?  It actually has very little to do with your accuracy--it has to do with your multiplier.  When you go to "more stats" after playing a song, you will notice that it gives you an "average multiplier."  If this number is below 2.0, you'll get three stars.  If it's over 2.8, you'll get five stars.  Anything in betw...

Welcome to a politics free rant. On games. Obscure roguelike games.     Starting from the start. Temple of the Roguelike is a great place to find roguelike games. Here's a URL. Temple of the Roguelike     Guild: Guild is a party-based roguelike where you control four players. Pretty decent, though I'm only good with one character. Guild     Powder: Powder is an excellent roguelike for multiple platforms, though t...

Welcome to one of my totally politics free rants. Guaranteed 99.9% politics free.    Today I will be discussing monologuing about why Cave Story (Dokutsusomethingsomething) is so awesome.     The aspects Cave Story has going for it are its great storyline, its easy yet complex puzzle-shooter gameplay, and its pretty awesome soundtrack. First, I love Cave Story for its storyline. It's simple, yet moving, and you get plenty of choices on what yo...

I'm going to start off on an adventurous foot. Thanks to Ryan Vincent (Yes, I do Google any name I find, no intimidation meant) for showing me this site. My topic today is Roguelike Design from the player's eyes.     Rogue was the first Roguelike game, for those not in the know. If you know about roguelikes, you could skip this paragraph. Rogue was basically a tile and text-based RPG that put you in control of an adventurer. You can (z)ap wands and (w)ield sw...
On how to develop my speed! Most times when I'm playing, I have my kids or my hubby around me, and they are distracting. No matter how much I say, don't talk to me when I'm doing this, I want to increase my speed. OK, I've learned to tune them out and that helps!LOL! There are times when my computer at work, I usually play after 5pm if I do play at work, or at 12pm when everyone is out to lunch and the phone doesn't ring for an hour, I get the chance to relax and give it my undivided a...

Has anyone else been mildly disturbed by the name of the NPC Rogue in NWN2? (This is directed at the browncoat/NWN2 players, obviously)

Hi, Once SF was avaliable on TG.Net, Now it seems to have dissapeared into an install package that hasent been updated in about 3 years. I think that SF should be added to tg.net again, It is stardocks greatest classic and thouroughly deserves to be there as a fully supported product. Viva la SF!

Do we all remember a little game called Total Recall for the NES? Sure, if you are a old school gamer, you would. It was a game that was put out after a successful movie. The Atari had one, called E.T: Extra Terrestrial. A game so bad that there is a landfill somewhere in Nevada that holds all the copies ever made....well, about 97%. It appeared in EGM last year, and I found a copy at a local thrift store. A quarter, couldn't turn it down. There has been a curse, or at least a bleak legend...
First, the link: Link I've gotta figure out how to make that say something else... This is a fun little web-based MMORPG. It's free (at least for now), and doesn't make any attempt to take itself seriously. This is evidenced immediately by the character class selection: Seal Clubber, Turtle Tamer, Pastamancer (studies Noodlecraft), Sauceror (uneasy truce with the Pastamancers), Disco Bandit (the one I chose), and Accordian Thief. For grey, there's always the ability to either buy...

Recently, I purchased Final Fantasy XI , an MMORPG, for the PC and the Playstation 2 . I enjoy it, despite having to pay thirteen dollars each month to play it. I also purchased Everquest , so now I have two MMORPGs to play and twenty-six dollars to spend to play them each month! There are many more MMORPGs out there, and I'd like to try them all, but sadly, seeing as I have no job, I will not be enough to pay for many more MMORPGs. Still, is there an MMORPG out there that I definitely nee...

Time to catch up on posting links to reviews and such. FileFront posted my Manhunt review today, here's a really tiny snippet on this gory, twisted, and cool-for-an-hour-or-two stealth game: First of all, this isn’t an article about my search for a man to call my mate. In fact, it’s far from it. If anything, this review is about a bunch of ugly bastards searching for one man, and that man doing everything in his power to make said ugly bastards experience their last few seconds in brutal, p...

So, I spent all Friday night working on this new project for FileFront , and I had a TON of fun with it. Be sure to check it out, it's called For Gamers Weekly ( http://forgamers.filefront.com/3 ) and, as you may gather from the name, it'll come out every week, written by me. I think it's a great read, but I'm a little biased, so go see it for yourself.
In the same vein as my previous commentary ( The SWG post ) I know people will flock to World of Warcraft . Is it any good though? Well that remains to be seen. Beta has been fun but it's getting boring fast. Characters are level capped at the moment and once you hit that. There just isn't much to do. I know this will not be the case when it's released but there are a couple things that I'm sure will make it into the final release. Rest State - I must admit it's an interesting i...
