Grandparents post ad to Craigslist looking for a "Video Game Coach" and it is the most WHOLESOME thing
November 18, 2021 by Tatiora on tatiora
The Internet can sometimes be a cesspit of vitriol and negativity, but no matter how gross it can get there's always something that manages to shine through the murk. This story from Kotaku a couple of weeks ago about a couple who put out an ad on Craigslist asking for someone to help them beat The Last of Us 2 is definitely one of those things. Karen and Bruce Klein retired and took an interest in video games in 2021 after looking into things that they could do to keep themselves active. T...

New Steam Deck details released during virtual conference last week
November 17, 2021 by Tatiora on tatiora
Ages ago, I recall Valve having announced their Steam Deck console. They released some more details about the hand-held device last week during a Steamworks Virtual Conference, and it appears that the hype may well be worth something. Global supply chain issues have seen the device delayed until at least February of 2022, but fortunately that's only just a little bit longer to wait past the original promised release date, which was December 2021. The specs for the Steam Deck have been out ...

What ho, a quest? It's a Stardock D&D Night!
November 11, 2021 by Tatiora on tatiora
I have long known that I work with plenty of people who love games - that's not news to me, and if you've been reading these blogs at all, it isn't to you either! What did surprise me, however, was just how many of my colleagues actually love Dungeons & Dragons and other table-top RPGs. About two months ago, we were coming off the high of having a fantastic in-person game night . Raeann - a member of our amazing operations team - said in one of our chats "Stardock D&D night, when?", ...

Thanksgiving Themes for a Festive Desktop!
November 8, 2021 by Island Dog on ID's place to speak
Thanksgiving isn't the most popular skinning holiday, but I wanted to feature a few Thanksgiving themes and wallpapers for those who want a festive desktop this month. The good thing about Thanksgiving is that many of our autumn skins will work perfectly for the holiday, and we have a wide selection of those already. Check out a few of our favorites! Thankful   Scenic IV   Happy Thanksgiving Holiday Spread   Two Pumpkins on a...

Frankly, there are a whole bunch of us who will jump at any excuse to dress up in a costume and have fun - Halloween just happens to be the time when everyone  else  is doing it, too.   Our operations team here is amazing and they always make sure that we have everything we need to have a good time! They played Monster House on our big TV downstairs and had lunch catered from a local company - everything was absolutely deliciou...

Archaeologists discover rare Roman statues beneath medieval church in England
November 3, 2021 by Tatiora on tatiora
England is getting a new high-speed rail system installed - which, for certain parts of the world, perhaps hardly constitutes news, but it's what some archaeologists found while digging that caught my attention.  Three Roman busts and other rare artifacts were unearthed at the site of a former Norman-era church in Stoke Mandeville, a village located about 46 miles northwest of London. The excavations at the site had already been underway for about 7 months when the statues made their...

WC Community Question: Do You Thanksgiving your Desktop
October 28, 2021 by Island Dog on ID's place to speak
Now that we're almost clear of the Halloween season, the next event to look forward to is Thanksgiving near the end of November. Halloween and Christmas are our two biggest skinning holidays, and Thanksgiving has never really been popular for desktop themes. Even though I like changing my desktop for the seasons and holidays, I usually just skip ahead and get my Christmas desktop going. So that's the question this week. Do you add any Thanksgiving themes to your desktop?

Stardock's Cider Mill Trip!
October 28, 2021 by Tatiora on tatiora
I am in a unique and wonderful position here at Stardock in that I genuinely enjoy spending time with my colleagues. Many of us spend time outside of work hours playing board games, slaying monsters in Dungeons & Dragons, or critiquing new and popular films out at the theater together.  Once in awhile, our amazing operations team plans an outing for us so we can all get out of the office and enjoy some teambuilding activities. Autumn is widely celebrated in Michigan as cider season, ...

A Black Manta movie was secretly in the works under a different name
October 27, 2021 by Tatiora on tatiora
Back in 2018, James Wan's  Aquaman  made a big splash (pun intended) at the box office. In early 2019, we learned about Warner Brothers' plan to develop a smaller-scale horror spinoff based on the creatures that appeared during the underwater trench sequence of that movie. Which seemed weird, sure, but also made sense as a next step in superhero films for the director of movies like  Saw, Insidious,  and  Malignant.  The Trench movie was canceled earlier this...

Stardock's Chili Cook-off!
October 21, 2021 by Tatiora on tatiora
I am a lover of soups, stews, and chilis. The very  second  the weather dipped below 60 here in Michigan, I popped my head out the door and bellowed "SOUP SEASON!" ...you think I'm exaggerating or being dramatic, but I'm not. My friends (and my poor neighbors) will attest. Anyway, I'm not the only one who loves this time of year around here! Fall sees all sorts of fun activities popping up at Stardock, from visits to Cider Mills, to Halloween costume contests, and of course al...
