Stardock’s Derek Paxton talks with the folks over at PocketGamer.biz about the making of Dead Man’s Draw and the motivation behind moving into the mobile game market. “You need only talk to Derek Paxton, vice president of Stardock Entertainment, for the briefest amount of time to realise just what a deep love and understanding of strategy games he has. Indeed, it's this keen appreciation for the genre that has helped put the US developer on the map. ...

I recently celebrated my 7th year anniversary working for Stardock and began thinking about what games and announcements have been released in that time! This year, Stardock celebrated its 20 th year and part of that celebration was the announcement of Galactic Civilizations III! In our community, we have lots of long-time users and we also have a steady flow of new users, especially since we released our first mobile game. Check out some of the games and announcement...

Derek and developers Alan Batsford and Sarah Trombley and artist Leo Li gave members of Wolverine Soft, the University of Michigan's game development organization, a taste of what it's like to work in the game industry.
I haven’t done one of these in a while but holy cow so many cool things going on with so many things being announced so recently that I think we owe it to you guys to share what’s happening here. So as some of you know, Stardock’s an “indie” in the sense that it’s still owned and run by its founder (me). So there is no question whatsoever who I am responsible to: My coworkers and you.  I don’t have stock holders to please and that lets us do lots...
Today is the 20th anniversary of Stardock’s incorporation. Having my own company was never my intention. It sort of just happened. What started in my dorm room has, over the past 20 years, expanded into an exciting but sometimes maddening adventure. My mom and I had moved to Michigan when I was four years old, and she had taught me the importance of working and saving fr...

It can be quite a challenge to work at the same place for 20 years. I think that’s doubly true if you’ve never worked anywhere else. That said, looking back, I haven’t really worked at the same place for 20 years. I’ve actually worked at 5 places, all called Stardock and all very different.   Stardock Primoridal “This really seems exciting!” –College Student Brad Wardell, 1993 This was back when it was just me. The year was 1993. The closest thing I...
