Hello everyone! Well we had quite a day at our workshop today. I am all after the outcome. That is another article though. On Sunday I embarked on my first trip as a solo "resident" of Sri Lanka. I was working like mad on Sunday on the presentation and Moodle site for today. I was questioning if I should go out or not but I eventually said heck with it and decided to take a break. I really needed it. I called a cab and they came in about 15 minutes. My main objective was to...
Trip to Thailand I’m pretty lucky. For the past 5 years I have gone to Thailand in November. My husband and his buddies play in a 7’s tournament (7 on the field, 7 min half) in Patong on Phuket. I insist on going along for a number of reasons. Mainly, I want to go to Thailand, too. The first three years I never went to a game. I sat on the beach (didn’t like being hassled by the Thai guys because I was sitting by myself), went to spas (very ni...
Hi everybody, Just thought I'd give out some really fun suggestions to anyone checking in here who happens to live in Okinawa or any other tropical island type environment, on how to make your very own tropical fish tank without buying any fish. While I lived in Okinawa, I used to think about buying some tropical fish from the fish store and making my very own tropicla aquarium at home to sit and enjoy. Then one day while I was walking around on the coral reefs at Sunabe seawall area...
Here for your reading “enjoyment” (and I use that word in the loosest sense possible) is another excerpt from my journal of the past few days. I don't know what else to write. I've got ideas that I'd love to get onto my blog, but it seems that all I really want to write about is Tarragona, the city that has captured my heart. Hope you all can deal with a blog full of this crap for the next five months. -- 13 Feb 2008. 6:03 pm. Finally. I was able to attend...
Well for part two of my vacation, I went to Southern Hokkaido, to the city of Hakodate. Hakodate is a really nice city, it is fairly historic (one of the first ports to open at the end of the Edo era) and well serviced by public transport. The train system in Hokkaido is actually Trams! Adds to the historic flavour. I stayed in a fairly upmarket hotel (all the others were full), and they staff looked pissed off to be renting a room to a dirty backpacker like me. So of course I made sure to wa...
2 weeks ago I went on vacation to Aomori and Hakodate. Aomori is the prefecture and city on the northern tip of Honshu (Japan's main island) and Hakodate is the city on the southern tip of Hokkaido (japans most northern island). For this first installment, I will discuss Aomori. (http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/location/regional/aomori/index.html) Upon arriving in Aomori via Bullet Train, I noticed it was quite different from the rest of Japan. It actually reminded me on Northam (in West Austral...

I was just reminded of this story when chatting to a work colleague, and as it's slow this afternoon, I'll use my last hour to tell you why it's no fun to live on the other side of the world from most other land masses (Australia to the uninitiated). So, it was Christmas/New Year 1993/94 and I'd travelled to London to spend the holidays with my best friend Sharon, who was on that obligatory work/travel thing that so many Aussies do (but I never did, having travelled a LOT in my tender yout...
For less than the cost of staying at a good hotel in Bali you can now enjoy the luxury of a beautiful private Bali villa with air-conditioned bedrooms and tropical bathrooms to dream about, spacious living and dining areas and spacious terraces, a lush tropical garden with your own private swimming pool, and well-trained butler to take care of everything around the clock. A villa is basically a house where a family can spend their time together. In Bali however, a villa is a breath of nature for the family, for first time honeymooners, or individuals who want to re-encounter the self being. Most villas in Bali take personal privacy into account, and this is at harmony with nature. The detailed concept of their respective architectures can be various, but privacy and luxury play an important role in the basic concept of many villas. Luxurious, sometimes...

Beijing's History Some half a million years ago, Peking man lived in Zhoukoudian, in the southwestern suburbs of Beijing. The climate of that time was warmer and more humid than it is today. Forests and lakes in the area supported large numbers of living creatures. The fossil remains of Peking man, his stone tools and evidence of use of fire, as well as later tools of 18,000 years ago, bone needles and article of adornment from the age of Upper Cave Man are the earliest cultural relics on rec...
