Our cat Polly likes to get into boxes and bags.  She's been known to cram her bulk into empty soda 12-pack boxes, shoe boxes, paper bags, plastic bags...she's not fussy.  If it's a bag or a box, she'll get in it. We went to the grocery store this morning, and after we had unloaded everything we left a paper bag out for Polly to play in.  She spent most of the morning in there, rustling around and pouncing on unseen things. This afternoon, when the boys came home from sc...
Sonnet 1337 The squirrel's nostrils fill with the spring airs As it hops around the greeny grass ground. Squirrels are concerned not with human cares, And find materialism unsound. The squirrel is as happy as can be, As the wind blows in its fur and buckteeth, When it frolics from green grass ground to tree Hiding in the newness of nature's wreath. Squirrels nickname happens to be lucky, And as you most assuredly will see, Mainly there are just too many Bucky...

Our resident squirrel, Fatso, made the most of the outside garbange can lid being left open this morning.  He got in there and scored himself some tasty morsels (in the photo you can actually see the hole he gnawed in the edge of the garbage can so that he can get in it even when the lid is closed). Polly the cat likes to sit in the window and watch the world outside, and she spent a happy half an hour watching Fatso and wishing that the window pane would somehow melt away and she ...

Every so often when I am overcome by circumstances in my life I see something in the shadows flitting about. It's for sure not death, it's much smaller and mostly stays in the shadows where I cannot make out what it is. Sometimes when I least expect it, I see a pair of jade green eyes staring out at me. It's at that point I realize what is staring at me from the shadows, call me insane if you must but I am convinced I know who it is and why it is there looking in on me. My old friend t...
I say Since he talks a lot, the answer is obvious, but it was only obvious to my french speaking Son Corey. he figured the name for my new kitten due to his habit of using his claws (swords) meowing a lot, (pure poetry! at least to a cat) and an obvious affection for noses, his name obviously became Cyrano de MotorMouth. You all remember barsnacks the cat. Link Meet his distant cousin from West Texas Pre-attack on my nose He's pretty smart except when he feels the need to attack...

Elendil's article about some fossils reminded me of all the strange things in the sea and a story I saw on the news on TV about the discovery of giant squid. A 25 ft squid has been caught on camera and remains of squid in sperm whale stomachs hint at giant squid that could be up to 100 ft. long. Check out this link: Link to get to the squid blog. Check out this link to see the reuter's footage of the 25 ft squid Link it takes a long This link has some nice stories about so...

With the days getting shorter I'm having less and less time to spend with my feathered friends in the house. In our household we have several cages with groups of birds in them. Some who may have followed past threads I've posted know that there are cat allergies, and some dog allergies in the household. My Wife and Son have the most difficulties with pet allergies, my daughter and myself much less so. The birds have been a good, or at least reasonable compromise. Everyone seems to be...

Henry (my weiner dog) hasn't totally got the hang of peeing outside yet.  He's much, much better than he used to be, but he still likes to lift his leg in the kitchen and the laundry room. It pisses Dave off.  A lot.  And when Dave gets pissed off at Henry, he looks to me to carry the blame.  He told me last week that I'd better do something within a week to fix Henry's issue. I can't house break a dog in a week.  Like I said, Henry's getting there slowly but surel...

Today I had to say goodbye to a dear friend of 10 years, Quincey.  He had Cushings disease, that destroyed his muscle and body over the last year.  We did everything that we could do for him, including importing drugs from the UK, but some things you just can't fix.  I just got back from a business trip, and took yesterday off to get back on track.  Unfortunately, it seems as if he waited for my return then just gave up.  Within 36 hours, he quit eating, quit d...

Our cat likes to get into boxes.  And bags. Every time, without fail, that there's a box in our home, she gets in it.  This morning my laptop bag got delivered, and no sooner had  I taken the bag and the packing out of the box, she was in it.  She's not picky about her boxes either.  She's just as happy with a shoe box as she is with the box the TX came in.  She even got into an empty 12 pack soda box last week.  It was a tight squeeze, and I don't ...

This is Henry: Henry hates our 'shark' steam cleaner.  I had it out this afternoon, spot cleaning the carpet and upholstery.  The steam that comes out of it isn't hot; I can plce my hand in front of it comfortably...it just makes a hissing noise that drives him wild  This is Henry trying to 'get' the steam and getting a little irate in the process.   hehehehe...that's a pissed off weiner dog!!!!!

... then what about people? Because I think I used one up this past weekend. We had a nice, typical thunderstorm on Saturday. Steady rain, few booms in between. Around 11, all had stopped and was quiet. The sun was even beginning to show. Then the dog began barking. My neighbor from across the street was heading over. A large bag in hand. I ended up closing the front door and standing on the porch because the dog would not stop barking. Turns out, the bag was cat food. His cats didn't like ...

A conversation started the other day where the person said they called their boss to tell him their dog had died and he would need a few days off. The guy really loved his dog and was taling the passing of his dog very hard. He was being genuine and honest when he told his Boss he needed a few days to recompose himself. I've had pets all my life and am a huge animal lover but I think a few days to grieve for your dog is a little much. He has the right to ask for personal time but I ...

Why are my pets so naughty? Yesterday the puppy chewed on the ibooks power cord and when I went to pick it up I got zapped. Ouch, my arm hurt the rest of the night! Now the cord needs to be replaced. Extra expense #1. I had a meeting tonight, and I came home to find my breast pump chewed up and across the kitchen. AGAIN!!! UGH! This time the damn cat climbed into the dishwaser, and managed to break open the plastic wire basket the parts get sanitized in the dishwasher in. Now that has t...
