Today, as with the past three Saturdays I took my bunny, Simon, to a local rehab facility. It's amazing how something small and furry and can make so many seniors oooh and ahhh. This week two women said, "Oh, he's getting so big" and "He's starting to grow into those ears, isn't he?" It's an amazing thing to see people who are non-vocal respond to him. One woman named Florence looked at him, smiled and said, "ohhh." This is a woman who I see regularly, but mostly she seems to s...

My husband and I walk our weiner and boxer dogs every night after supper.  We set out with poo-pickup bags in hand (biodegradableones from PerSmart) with both Grace and Henry securely latched onto their leashes.  We don't let them walk in other people's yards, and if they crap, we pick it up.  We are, in other words, somewhat responsible for our dogs and their behaviour when we're out.  We have a couple of routes through military family housing that we take, both ...
Autumn Woods Walking in the woods is a good way for me to relax when I am angry or upset. Anne Frank, in her diary, explains my feelings very well. She and her family were forced into hiding during World War II. They lived there two years, without ever going outside, before they were discovered. She wrote, "The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be alone with the heavens, nature, and God. Because only then does one f...
I looked out the window today and saw the first change to fall colors. Some green leaves are turning yellow here in Michigan. I'm really a Spring person but when I read that my Grandmother's favorite season was Fall I have a new found appreciation. Camping in the fall is the best too! How about you? What's your favorite season?

I've been using a squirt bottle to train Socrates. We've been going round and round about his biting. He just wants to play but I am trying to teach him that biting is a bad thing. When he starts biting I'll tell him "NO!" and sometimes that will work. If he continues after the second "NO!", I say "I'm gonna get the squirt bottle." That works now as he's experienced the squirt bottle enough times to know exactly what that phrase means. I don't even need to squirt him any more, just threate...

I went out in the backyard to get in one of my cats,  And while calling to him, I notice a large bird in one of my trees.  About the size of my smaller cats! It was a hawk!  Beautiful bird too!  I wonder if he is going to stick around, or just dropped in for a snack on voles? I wish I had my camera.  My wife took it to Germany with her.

A New Day Dawning The awakening morning Rousing those around it Beckoning, full of promise The fresh morning air Wraps itself around me Comfortingly adorning Tj=he rising sun, peeps playfully over the hills Artfully projecting shafts of light Warmly caressing Birds open their eyes and sing sweet songs Pleasantly soothing Flowers unfolding Drinking the dew Face the rising son Shades of pink and gold merging with blue In genesis of day A new day daw...

I own a number of miniature shetland and minature ponies one of which is still "in tact" in effect a stallion. His name is Jack, I picked him up as a 3 month old foal at the forest sales. He was in a dreadful state, he had such a heavy worm burden his liver was damaged and this at 3 months old - still too young to be weaned from mum. I nursed this lttle guy back to good health and he is now 4years old and a really special little pony with a wonderful personality. I rent a field from...
Well, I had to get rid of my birds (emus, chickens, and ducks) before I went off to college. No one else would take care of them....so they had to go bye bye. I had about five other guys out with me at 7:30 this morning trying to catch two big ol' birds. The pasture they were in is roughly half an acre...if that much. A decent size, but not that big. It took about an hour and a half to wear them down so that they could be subdued. One of them took a decent swipe at me but I blocked with a c...
I found another boy lurking in the back yard. I bet he's going to be tasty - and juicy!

Up until tonight Socrates has express no interest at all in going outside. In fact the few times I have carried him outside he has been scared near to death and clung to me for protection. Tonight I rode to the C-store to get a couple of beers. When I got back he was sitting directly in front of the door when I opened it. He stuck his head out and sniffed around a bit and then I shooed him back so I could get inside and close the door. For a few minutes after that he meowed and clawed at t...
I'm trying to put a picture here. Can you see it? It's my dog Sparky. If this works I'll put some pics of the new bunny. and here's another
My new bunny is home. He's a boy. I still haven't picked a name. He's a californian rabbit which means that he's mosly white with black feet, ears and nose. His eyes are pink. He's soooo cute and sooo friendly already. How do I post a picture of him?
