I feel like griping about the film and praising it as well so I am gonna do it here....beware Ok first off...Overall I liked the movie. I thought the whole dark feel to it was greatly captured and shown. The new campus look was awesome. I felt that showing how big the campus was and the terrain was an awesome site. I loved the Dementors. They were just how I pictured them. Some of the scenes were so impactful I thought that the y would make great photos/posters. A lot of cri...
Having just returned from a 9pm showing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , it is with great joy, satisfaction and one hell of a big grin that has been plastered on my face for the last three hours that I tell you that this movie is cinematic brilliance in every way. The change in directors was, in my mind, the best thing that could happen to the franchine. The new director, Alfonso Cuarón, took over for Chris Columbus (who directed the last two films ) and is did an absolutely re...
I took the kids to see Shrek 2 last night. I don't know who enjoyed it more the kids or me. I loved it. It does have more adult humor than the first but it isn't obvious enough that it wouldn't be suitable for kids. If you have seen the first Shrek movie and enjoyed it than you definately need to see this movie. It shows you what happens after the honeymoon. And what happens when Shrek meets the inlaws. I don't want to give away the movie so I'll cut this short. I'd definately recommend this ...
Put 3 hunks like Eric Bana(Hector), Brad Pitt(Achilles) and Orlando Bloom(Paris) and what do you get? Loads of young, female fans queuing in line again and again to see their dreams on screen. Troy is set to break box-office records. I feel that Wolfgang Petersen, the director of this move failed to bring out the essence of love and war that Homer portrayed in his poem. This movie is highly exaggerated in a way to make it more appealing to media masses and lacks accuracy to the original poem,...
There are some movies you see and even as you leave the theater you want to see them again. The Star Wars movies are a good example. They're light pop-corn flicks. Other movies are powerful films that are well crafted, sometimes considered master pieces. But once you see them, you don't want to see them again. Troy is closer to the latter. I don't know if I'd call it a masterpiece but I would definitely call it a really impressive film work. It holds up pretty well to some of the classics of ...
So we saw Van Helsing. I didn't have particulrly high expectations for it but on the other hand I was pretty excited to see it. Personally, I really liked it. But then again, I always found The Mummy and The Mummy Returns to be enjoyable (but not as good as Van Helsing). But it is definitely in that same feel. Lots of special effects shots -- LOTS of them. Of our group that went, opinions were mixed. I kind of felt it was up there with Indiana Jones in terms of overall enjoyment though the...
During my Sake night, all of the rushes of Memento came roaring back in a surly haze. The first time I ever saw Memento was at the Canada Square at 4:05pm, on July 15th, 2001. I believe it was a Sunday, and was the last day that Canada Square operated under Cineplex Odeon. After that, it turned into an offshoot of the Famous Players' Silvercity, which was down the street. I hadn't seen the commercial for Memento, but I had seen the ad in the paper. The poster of Memento gave me one...
This week, I decided to focus on a good, family targeted movie that I love to watch. "Door to Door" is a docudrama about Bill Porter's struggle to live a normal life. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Bill struggled throughout life. Living with his mother, Bill set out to find work, to help support his loving mother. He soon found that, once again, Cerebral Palsy had crippled his life. He was considered unemployable, but due to his immense courage and determination, he was able to obtain a job...
Before we get into things, I would like to state that "Milkdrop" is not a movie. It is a gift from the visual gods. Adam let me in on this little gem. Milkdrop is a visualization for Winamp and it is amazing!!!! Before I knew of MD, I watched "Battery: Randomization" on Windows Media Player. It was pretty cool. The rotating windmill, and the endless tunnels were highly addictive, and provided another excuse to sit in front of my computer for an hour, staring at my screen. MD, however, c...
Thalia&Calliope - Finding Nemo, directed by Lee Unkrich It's not often that'll I will willingly go to the cinema to watch a cartoon. I can safely say, however, that Disney Pixar's smashing new movie, Finding Nemo must be one of the best films this year. For starters, I think that I should mention that Disney's warning that the film contained "mild peril" cannot in any way begin to convey the terror that I experienced throughout the film ~ if I were a five year old I think that I would ne...
When a film is made, the director aims to capture a series of moments on camera, and to preserve them for later viewing. In Girl with a Pearl Earring, Webber has achieved a certain mastery of the art of communication that rivals the topical art of the film itself. How do you capture, not merely the standard movie moment, but a lifetime in the space of 99minutes alone? This is the exact impression that Girl… gives, the undeniable sensation that although what you see is those character’s realit...
Last summer, amidst my 200 flicks that I watched in June, one of the memorable ones was "Tape." It stars Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Robert Sean Leonard. It's all about 3 high school buddies who meet in a motel room and painfully remember their shared memories. Ethan is a drug dealer, Robert is a film director in town for a festival, and Uma works at a (Doctor's?) office in town. Amidst the awkward setting of the motel, there is also a history of relationships that involves the...
Last night Mr Right and I rented One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I still am not sure if I liked it or not. For being made in the 70's it was pretty good, but I am not sure I really liked the whole story line. I felt like it was a little far-fetched, although my hubby the pych teacher informs me that mental health care is not what it was in the 70's. Jack Nicholsen of course was great, he almost always is. What I did like is the VERY young Danny DeVito. That was interesting. Maybe aft...
Last night husband and I rented Matchstick men starring Nicholas Cage. It was really good. We both really enjoyed all the movies twists and turns! Nicholas Cage was really good in it (of course). The movies basic plot is Nic is a con man that also has OCD. Him and his partner are going for the biggest con they have done. During this he also meets his 14 year old daughter, that he has never met... then things get twisted. I have to be vauge so as not to give away any of it. I suggest y...
In the past few weeks, I've seen some good movies, and I've seen some stink burgers. These two are so bad, that I've decided to put all of my rotten eggs in one basket. About a month ago, I rented The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with Sean. We watched it, then we sat there, wondering what the hell we just spent 5 bucks on. The action is fine and dandy. Guns are blarin’’, cars are speedin’’. As for the rest of the movie, uhhhhh, not so good. First off, the story is absolutely lu...
