A lady at work was telling me about a renting and watching supersize Me and curiosity got the better of me so I went and rented it. Quite an interesting documentary. In short, it's about a guy who eats McDonalds three times/day for a full month and it followed him day by day and what was happening. He also ordered the supersize. He had doctors and specialists monitoring him. All while watching the film though, I couldn't help but think "moderation". Anything in large excess is bad for you. An...
NOTE: Contains massive SPOILERS. Since this is already out on DVD, it means the statute of limitations is up on giving away stuff. I have to admit, I rented "The Stepford Wives" with a bit of trepidation. I'd seen the original, which was rather alarmingly gloomy (it didn't have a very happy ending) but poignant. This version had gotten mixed reviews. But once I watched it, I found that I was happy I had. Nicole Kidman (hottie) plays Joanna Eberhart, a sassy TV producer who gets axed fro...
NOTE: Contains SPOILERS. You may avert your eyes if you haven't seen the movie. Meet Bob Parr, a.k.a. Mr. Incredible. When our story begins, he's busily saving the world from the bad guys (trying to juggle several jobs at once, too) and also dealing with a rather, *ahem*, persistent fan. Eventually, through what can only be explained as "movie logic," Mr. Incredible gets married (to Helen a.k.a. Elastigirl) and has to retire from the hero business. He ends up with three kids, and a practic...
I just saw the movie The Motorcycle Diaries . Beautiful movie, and beautiful story. I hope everyone sees it. It makes you think a lot about the injustice in the world, and what we should do about it. It also shows some great shots of some of the most beautiful places and people in the world. Check it out. -rob
I got a good laugh this afternoon when I read a story on the Internet Movie Database... when I read the reason that the studio attributed to the failure for the wretched remake of Alfie is not that it was a bad film(even though it was recently named the 6th worst remake of all time)... no... it was because of the ELECTION RESULTS!?! Huh? That is the lamest excuse EVER. I mean, if all movies were down last weekend, maybe they would be on to something, but the Incredibles did incredible bu...
This past friday I was able to sit and watch the newest addition to the PIXAR family of movies called, The Incredibles . The synopsis of the movie is as such. Mr. Incredible is a superhero who's power is super strength and seemingly indestructability. He does the typical superhero thing. Saving cats out of trees, foiling bad guys plans of crime. However he has one problem, while saving a man jumping off a building to commit suicide he crashed into a bank and he hears a ticking noise comi...
You ever get the feeling the older you get, the younger your crushes get? (Note: yeah, I know someone just posted this on the Guilty Pleasures article, and I'm not trying to be a copycat, so bear with me). An example: Lindsay Lohan. She's barely 18. I'm almost 32. That's (does quick math) 14 years between us. I could (although logistically it would be impossible) technically be her father. I feel like a dirty old man. I'd go make a confession but I'm not Catholic. So I've decided to do it...
NOTE: Contains SPOILERS. Don't read if you haven't seen the movie (and don't want me to ruin it for you). Don't let the title fool you. Gwenyth Paltrow is the heroine of this movie. Why do I say this? Jude Law's "Sky Captain" (nee Joe Sullivan) is much like Han Solo: he's the likeable, roguish sort who lights up the screen and makes us root for the good guys. Gwenyth Paltrow's "Polly Perkins" is whose story we follow, though. She's a reporter investigating a plot to kidnap the world's t...
I've got a confession to make. I'm in love with Sarah Michelle Gellar. Well, maybe not "with" per se because it's very much unrequieted at this moment. That is to say that I firmly doubt Sarah Michelle Gellar returns my feelings of amorous infatuation. Whatever. To make a long story short: I think she's frikkin' hot. What? Don't look at me that way. This is not why I went to see "The Grudge," though. I went to see "The Grudge" because, well, the previews looked interesting. I...
The stars aligned, the gods smiles, and the baby-sitter WAS, in fact, planning on coming. We got to go to "The Incredibles". Now I realize that for many of you going to a movie probably seems a silly little thing, a mere trifle and not worth writing about. But hey, this is only the fourth movie my wife and I have seen in theaters this years, so every one is a bit of a big deal for us. Sometimes we feel as though we wasted our time and money. Not last night. As we left the theater my...
Note: this article contains SPOILERS. So if you haven't seen the movie and don't want me to ruin it for you, then stop reading. Now then. I give you Shaun, the unlikeley hero. Dead end job. Lazy as hell. His best friend is a lout , his love life is on the rocks, and to top everything off something's gone terribly wrong in London. Shaun doesn't notice this until a Zombie ("Don't say that word!") shows up in his garden. Essentially, this gives Shaun the kick in the arse he needs to do someth...
I'll grant you, I knew "Dr. Seuss' the Cat in the Hat" was going to be bad going in. However, it was free on HBO and we had nothing else to do so we watched it. Why we watched the whole thing I'll never know, but I think I can now officially classify it as the Worst Movie Ever. Previously, "Battlefield Earth" held that title. The main problems were that the movie wasn't funny, and that you didn't care about the characters. Fairly difficult problems to overcome, I'd say. Directed by Bo W...
Went and seen this flick, and to sum up, I wasn't impressed by it as I was by the first one. I'll admit I missed the first 5 or 10 mins of it, but I doubt anything happend that would explain the cruddy flow of this flick. Like in Aliens Resurection, I got that same feeling of; theres a hole, lets jump in it for no reasonable explination to its viewers. Except in this flick its more like lets walk through a graveyard, or there is something lurking down this dark ally, or lets fight this mon...
In no particular order: American History X -- hopeful and sad look at racial tensions and what it takes to get out of a cycle Love Actually -- the most un-cheesy, realistic look at love in the romantic comedy genre Big Fish -- only because it mirrors a relationship I have with my own father, so perfectly A River Runs Through It -- is anything more beautiful than Montana and fly fishing? Snatch -- hilarious. well-edited, just the right number of twists, great cinematography--and the DVD...
I've long had a curiosity about the Korean War. It has to do with being a military Korean linguist, mostly. I know about the US involvement. I know about Task Force Smith, I know about the Pusan Perimeter. I've read about the Incheon Landing and the march north to the Yalu. I know about the Chinese involvement and about the US Marines having to fight their way out of North Korea (more on that later in this post). I've learned about the stalemate that stabalized near todays borders for y...
