I personally think that most sports are extremely boring to watch. I can understand the appeal in playing or watching if you know someone is playing. I just don't follow pro sports on TV at all. One term I don't understand at all and am hoping someone can understand is a 3-pt basket being called a field goal in basketball. What the heck? Soccer is on a field, football is on a field, basketball is on a....court! Where on earth does the term come from?
I'm sure I'll get slapped around for my stance here, especially since it's clear that I'm a Maryland Terrapin fan, so my complaint could easily be seen as one of jealousy and envy, but I hope folks will bear with me, listen to or read my argument and perhaps determine that they agree with me. During the NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament, as I'm sure also happens during the NCAA Womens Basketball Tournament, as I'm also sure happens during the Football Bowl games, and in similar events, we th...
On a sad note many of you may have heard the famous Twins Player Kirby Puckett passed away late last night. Now as a child I grew up watching him play baseball and I named my cat after him. I wanted to name him Kirby Puckett but we had to shorten it to just puckett because he wouldn't answer to the whole thing. Not that any of his family and friends will read this but I am sincerely sorry and offer my deepest regrets and condolanceses to him family. He was due to get married sometime soon so ...
Being the baseball fan that I am, I could not allow Kirby Puckett's passing to go unnoticed. I never followed the Twins very closely. Unless they are playing my Mariners or trading with the Mariners, they are largely irrelevant. But I lived for 12 years in the state of Wisconsin, where 4 of my 5 children were born, and where the spectre of the Twins easily overshadows the dismal Brewers (a likely motivation for Selig's ill-fated attempts of a few years ago to wipe the Twins from the map), and...
Kirby Puckett died yesterday as a result of a stroke. He was only 45 years-old. That's pretty young! Like most Minnesota Twins fans, I have good memories from Kirby Puckett's playing career. Game six of the 1991 World Series against the Atlanta Braves was the most exciting game that I have ever been to (or seen on television for that matter). -The next night was pretty fantastic too by the way. Puckett's catch and home run, coupled with Scott Erickson's extra-gutty pitchi...
Heh heh, I did it. I'm gonna race next month. I'm running in the first ever Killian's Shamrock Half-Marathon in Virginia Beach. (they've had full marathons, but this is the first time they're doing a half with it.) Who gives a crap? This is my first race in over a year, and I'm finally commiting to my milage again. End results are, I've dropped twenty pounds, three belt notches, and I'm back down to about 8:30 minute miles on my long runs. I'm hoping to get this race in under 1:55. I fo...
Last night I was getting new Cell phones for my wife and I. NBD, just new phones (as mine was a wreck and we dont want to have 2 sets of adapters). We do Verizon. And they are good enough and not BSing me (as I had already researched on the web). But since we were doing a 2 year contract and plus a $50 rebate, my phone was free. And so was hers due to the BOGO. But that is not the story. While waiting for them to transfer the numbers to the new phone, a guy (p...
If you're not a Seattle Mariners baseball fan, you'll put this article in the "who cares" category. If you're not a baseball fan in general, you'll be even more inclined to disregard it. But every year, about this time, I start itching for that little white ball with stitches. So, I'm putting up this information for the few, the proud, the Mariners faithful! (from yahoo! news) Major League Baseball and the Seattle Mariners released the official report dates for Spring Training 2006. ...
February is almost upon us. The Superbowl's a-nearing. Those two events mean one thing. Baseball's a-comin'. Pitchers and catchers report sometime later in the month, and by March, everything is in full swing. And as a Mariners fan, I have reason for hope, with the acquisition of former Angels ace Jarrod Washburn and a team with the better parts left mostly intact. Sure they've sucked the last couple years (last year, I believe, the departure of Edgar Martinez was a major factor; Ichiro Suzuk...
Introduction The doctrine of sociology emerged in the nineteenth century from the major discipline of philosophy; is primarily credited to Auguste Comte. Despite Comte’s formulation of the terminology, sociology, and its basic tenets, the subject was also fashioned by Herbert Spencer, Emile Durkheim and Max Weber. Many academia and other pundits have attributed those scholars as pioneer, fathers, of this branch of thought. One contemporary sociologist, Dr. Orville Taylor, who is a se...
Yup, I took all the guess work out of it for us. If you play lower limit games or even $3-$6 or $5-$10 well then heres a chart that will give you the exact amount needed to be in the pot to make your call correct according to the "outs". Ok so what is an out right? Well an "out" is when say you have a 9 and 10 in your hand and the board comes up 7-8-2 your holding a 9-10 well now to make your hand you would need a ...
My boyfriend is a longtime, hardcore Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. Needless to say, he was affixed to the television today watching his beloved team play the Colts. Well, after a few scary moments when it seemed the Colts would benefit from the last minute Bettis fumble, the Colts' kicker missed the possible score tying field goal...and the Steelers triumphed. My boyfriend was overjoyed, thrilled, on cloud nine...he even came over to kiss me several times...I asked him, "Would you have kissed ...

Yesterday I received a late Christmas present from my sister in Hawaii. She sent me a WWE produced DVD titled: "The Greatest Wrestling Stars of the 80s". I had seen this video at stores over the last few months, considered it, but gave it a pass. I figured that the DVD would just be a bunch of profiles on the wrestlers. I usually don't expect to see what I want on those "retrospective" packages. Fortunately for me, the WWE really came through. Besides profiles, ther...
Just sitting here watching the football playoffs and killing a little time blog clicking and blog exploding (see links in the "Bring more traffic to your blog" area of my sidebar for more info on those services) and thinking that I really wish there was a pool for this weekends playoff game for the local team. We've had pools for every week of the regular season, we have pools for the NCAA basketball tourney (coming back again soon), and we have pools for the superbowl. One big pool for t...
