41...38. 3 points seperated the Texas Longhorns and SC Trojans. With 19 seconds left, the trojans, led by Matt Leinart tried to rally, but was unsuccesful. The Longhorns QB, Vince Young amassed 267 yards passing (30 for 40), 200 yards rushing in 20 attempts. Which broke a rose bowl record previously set by Danny Neil (sp?) of Oregon. This game was definantly intense. Finally, the Trojans were toppled. Now, the trojans played very well and nearly pulled it out. Good Job Longhorns....
Texas 41 Usc 38 Congratulations to the Texas Longhorns for winning the National Championship in a very good game. Go longhorns!!!
The '08 Orange bowl pitted the Penn State Nittany Lions against the Florida State Seminoles. Both teams coaches, combined, total over 700 wins in nearly 50 years (combined) of coaching. On one side you have Penn State's coach, known as "Joe Pa", who has had dissenters (most notably alumni) calling for his head. On the other side you have Bobby Bowden, who was thought to be "winding down". Both coaches, and teams proved the dissenters wrong. As I sat and watched the game, it was a total d...
Every year, sportswriters look for controversy. Since the inception of the much hated Bowl Champiohsip Series, much of it in the late season has centered around worthy teams that were snubbed from their "rightful" place among the BCS elite. And sometimes the writers are right. But sometimes it becomes a matter of Much Ado About Nothing. This year, the latter was true of the vaunted Oregon Ducks, who viewed their bowl matchup with Oklahoma as not worthy of their time and attention. Perhaps the...
17-14.... Yet again...they give up. Yet again, they don't play like they should. They are better than what most think. OY! Well....there's always next year... We've got a pretty good shot at the pac 10 title with Leinart and (most likely) Bush gone. But....until next season.... -Lucas
As I hold my fingers somewhat crossed that my favorite NFL team will keep up the momentum and wind up in the playoffs, I'm curious how many sports fans out there consider themselves somewhat superstitious? I'm not necessarily to the point of have to wear the lucky shirt or socks that don't get washed during the winning streak, but perhaps to the point of always wearing something with the team name/logo on game day or the days leading up to a big game. Anyone else there with me for such ...
I attended an awesome game Saturday and got to see the Pats mop the floor with Tampa Bay. It was a great game... but dang! It was COLD!! That's ok... it's all good. This week, however, has been pretty depressing. First I discovered that Johnny Damon is heading to the *hisssssssssss* Evil Empire. Seriously, I don't harbor any ill will toward him. I understand that baseball is his career and he has to operate within the parameters of what's best for him. Sure will miss him though. Grrrrrrrr...
A few years ago, Jarrod Washburn broke into the majors. As I had been a resident of Oshkosh, Wisconsin (his alma mater for several years), I took notice. Having close connections with the team, I knew him to be a good man and someone that sports fans could look up to. Two years ago when he put a million bucks into the kitty of his college's stadium rebuilding fund, he only reaffirmed that. But there was one big, overriding problem. Washburn played for the Anaheim Angels. In baseball, while it...
"NEW YORK - The New York Yankees grabbed center fielder Johnny Damon away from the rival Boston Red Sox, reaching a preliminary agreement Tuesday night on a $52 million, four-year contract. Damon fills a double void for the Yankees, giving them a speedy center fielder who can cover ground and a leadoff hitter to top a star-studded lineup. Bernie Williams' defense declined significantly over the past four seasons. And while Damon's arm is not much better, he does cover a lot of ground, wh...
26-17 was the final score as the Indianapolis Colts fell for the first time this season to the San Diego Chargers. Miami Dolphins fans no doubt rejoiced, as they will be reminding us until next season that they are to this point NFL's only team to play out a season and postseason undefeated. While Indy is no doubt disappointed at missing its chance to make history, this might be the best Christmas gift they could have gotten. See, entering the postseason undefeated has its drawbacks. Defea...
Note: RANT (Just letting off some steam...) When the clock strikes midnight of Jan. 3rd, We'll finally see what the final standings are. I am confident that the Ducks will whip the sooners. And make the BCS look like fools, again. (Like the '01 season....colorado anyone? nebraska?) I'm predicting that the Oregon Ducks (Yeah, thats right...the Oregon Ducks) go undefeated next year. *That* will make the Mich, OSU, ND, and other "perennial" school's fans to shut up. v.s. Stan...
Today as I was checking up on my favorite baseball team, I found a link to The World Baseball Classic. The Classic is an international, sixteen-team baseball tournament beginning in Japan on March 3rd, and ending in San Diego on March 20. This baseball tournament is scheduled to include the world's top professional players representing their home countries. Looking at the teams, it seems that the favorites from their respective pools will be: Japan, the USA, Venezuela, and The Domi...
This time of year is fun for baseball fans. Lots of speculation on (and actualization of) trades and free agent signings. So far this winter, the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians have acquired some high-end players. Chicago has just picked up Jim Thome (ouch!), and the Indians have recently acquired starting-pitcher Paul Byrd. In order to compete in the rapidly-improving American League Central Division, the Twins really have to upgrade a few positions. Last week, the Twins fille...
(Mostly a note to Texas Wahine, who had been wondering for a while what a Terrapin, or at leas a Terrapin fan was). Starting early next week, in the EA Sports Maui Invitation. Some minor details here: UM Terps site link ESPN Schedule is here: ESPN/ESPN2 Schedule And finally, the official Tournament site: http://www.mauiinvitational.com/ Perhaps TW will have opportunity to catch the game locally and see what the fuss is all about. But then again, Monday is a work ...
Early this morning on Espn radio, Colin Cowherd made some pretty rude comments about the passing of WWE superstar Eddie Guerrero saying that his death wasn't news worthy , that no one cares that he died , and also speculationg on his sudden passing. Well I'm a fan of freedom of speech, but when is it crossing the line. Sure he was a wrestler and their profession is really looked at more like a circus than a sporting event, but the man he talked about was still A HUMAN BEING FOR FUCK'S S...
