Just sitting here watching ESPN's Baseball Tonite and wanting to laugh my butt off at the holier than thou stuffed shirt talking head announcers/ reporters/ commentators who were mystified by the reactions that Raffy Palmiero received from the hometown Baltimore fans. Instead of solid boos, there was a mix of boos and cheers, mostly cheers in support of Palmiero. The Baseball Tonite crew seemed to be stunned that Palmiero wasn't roundly booed out of the game. What do they expect, fans...

Link Rush Limbaugh, humanitarian that he is, has offered to help Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens settle their dispute. The obvious question that comes up here is "Huh?", along with "What the hell...?" and "Why?" Are his ratings slipping? Is he getting desperate? What the hell's going on? He says he can help because "he's been there." Fine. I'll give him that. But still. Isn't this just a little...oh...out of nowhere?

I swear sports arbitrators must all be morons... But lest you think I'm only targetting them, understand full well that I have a special amount of scorn (and maybe a little hatred) for baseball's incompetent Commissioner Bud Selig. In many ways I used to be in favor of the players in the players vs. owners fights, but those times have long passed. Salary levels in baseball have gotten completely ridiculous, mostly because of idiot arbitrators that have so many times made decisions lean...
One of the more prominent sports-related stories recently has to do with the NCAA's banning of Indian team nicknames.  Link This is a really interesting issue.  One can understand that schools have a long-standing tradition of using (or maybe "honoring") indian archetypes as mascots.  Also, one can see that objectifying a race as a mascot can have the effect of trivializing intricate cultures which are still observed. I doubt that any institution (or fans of a team) t...

In light of the recent steroid ban, writers who have long looked for an excuse to keep Rafael Palmeiro out of the Hall of Fame have found it. But does their argument have a solid foundation? Let's say for a second that it does. I'll follow up with the question: based on WHAT? Rules violations? I bet noone's arguing for Kenny Rogers' omission after his infamous altercation. And George Brett, of pine tar infamy, hasn't been denied his rightful place among baseball's immortals. If you look at th...
My friends have talked me into a joining a Fantasy Football league.  Anyone have any tips, sites, whatever for that?

I can't say it was completely unexpected. With accusations by admitted steroids user Jose Canseco against him previously, plus the fairly constant thought of just what would an athlete need Viagra for (and why be a spokesperson for it if you weren't a user??), there's been a suspicion that Raffy Palmeiro may not have been completely clean. Unfortunately, he's one of the latest athletes to be "caught", though he denies any intentional use of any banned substances. Sadly, Raffy's career ...

I'm hoping this blog article doesn't hold the blogosphere's equivalent of the "Sports Illustrated" cover jinx. As a diehard Seattle Mariners fan, I watched Ken Griffey Junior back when he was fun to watch. Back when he was one of the most exciting players of the game. I watched him help build the M's to respectability and several playoff appearances, then get a big head and take off for Cincinnatti, where he has put up subpar numbers in every year since the move, and has yet to complete a sea...

By Paul Andrew Bourne, MSc. (candidate), BSc. (Hons.) The PNP administration and the governing policymakers are eagerly promoting “performance pay for teachers.” This is rightfully so in an economy with dwindling resources and low productivity. In a global context of high-end competition, the missing element to date in the discourse is “what about those at the helm of the society?” In this nation, many people continue to advocate the fundamental issues of productivity pay incentive sc...
Link Porsche is finally trying something new. The have decided to build a four door sedan, and they are calling it the PANAMERA. It looks similar to a 911, but it will have a front mounted engine. (which is nothing new. The 944, 924, & 928 are all front mounted). The scheduled release is 2008 or 2009. Click the link above to see a preview. Someone call hell and see if the ski resorts are open down there. Thanks for reading, thatoneguyinslc

Seriously, I want to know who has baseball as the number 1 sport on their list!  I use to.  I kept stats on every Baltimore player back in the glory days of Palmer, Cueller, McNally, and Dobson! (the only time a team has had 4 20 game winners!) I still follow it, but I am mostly football now.  So I want to know.  Who is a Baseball fanatic?

Tim Brown, Mr. Raider of the 90s, was resigned for a day so he could retire a Raider.  He holds almost every receiving record on the Raiders nd is one of my all time favorite players as he was was never selfish when it came to glory. Now that he is a retired man of leisure, he is thinking about buying a Nascar team!  If he does, I am going to be rooting for his team all the way.  I have never been interested in watching a bunch of guys (and an occassional girl) run around a tra...
This topic isn't my own.  The other night on the radio I heard a guy pose a question to the listeners.  The question went like this:  What's your favorite sport (to watch), and what caused you to like that sport so much? I thought that was good "food for thought", and I decided to write a weblog article about that. For me, my favorite sport is baseball.  I think that I can trace my love of baseball back to the Saturday afternoon games on NBC when I was a kid...

I wondered what happened to Bret Boone. Not to long a go, he was in the top 3 in the MVP voting. Now, he is designated for assignment giving the team 10 days to cut, or trade him. The team called up a Jose Lopez, a 21-year-old second basemen, to take his place. They say that it's not a move for the future, but a means "To salvage the season". Yeah, right. Come on, Boone is 36. He's been a 12 year vet, and you mean to tell me that calling up a 21-year-old is not a move for the future after yo...
In an email before I left for Cleveland, I had mentioned to one of my friends (Shelley) there that since I had missed the reunion and I would have time on my hands, I'd like to go see an Indians game with my mom. I checked the schedule and saw that they would be in town for the weekend to take on the Reds in the last interleague series of the season. It was being billed as the Battle for Ohio. I decided that Sunday would be a good day to catch a game. In a return email, my friend told me ...
