I'd like to take a second and say good bye to two things: 1. ADO 2.x (whatever version they are on) 2. SQL Injection   That's right people SQL Injection Ain't effecting or affecting US anymore!!! We have the dang cure and it comes in the form of ADO.NET's SQLCommand Object.   Simply put, we no longer have to construct queries in the matter of:   SQL = "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE NickName = '" & trim(request("NickName")) &...

Hosted a demo to the Sales staff of the new SPC site. “WOW!” was the response. They were very impressed and excited. The MD wants to have it available asap. As usual, once they’ve seen it, they want it. We may have to make an internal demo site available for them to show to customers. DH thinks version 1.0 should also support email settings. That’s contrary to our release plan but I’ll raise the issue to the project sponsor (TC).
We've been working on the Blog Navigator for a few months now. We've been on the net and found various RSS readers out there but they always seemed to lack something. If only we could combine all the best features of them together.  So that's where the Blog Navigator comes in. We're going to release a free version that just works on JoeUser.com. But the enhanced version, which will be $19.95, will help support the site and allow users to interact with any site with RSS feeds. But it ...

It has come to our attention(Admins), that submitting a rating has become abused somewhat so the rating system has been updated. Every user, including admins, are only allowed to submit a rating, on an article or reply to an article, 10 total times within any given 24 hour span. So if you are feeling generous and feel like giving articles an insightful rating or feeling frisky and trolling as many replies as you can get your hand on, remember one thing, WE ARE WATCHING YOU!!!!! S...

Okay, this week has been a difficult one on front and good on another. First off, I did some rather minor updates to JoeUser. One reason: Troubleshooting a odd problem with Cookies and Session variables. So my question to any and all people would be, when redirecting from one page to another web server and back again, what might cause cookies to be killed as soon as the page leaves the server? I realize that you must set a domain, which was done, but somehow, JoeUser tosses it's...

This past week has been a busy one. Now that Pat has come up with this crazy new system of writing all projects and ideas on the white board, it's been a lot easier to see what work has to be done. Actually, it's a good system and it seems to be working nicely. Anyway, here is a list of the items completed, or at least completed on the test system ready for final testing. Each item should be ready to be placed on the Production Server after Thursday. --JoeUser. Give detailed messages on Logon...

We're close to wrapping up Altarian Prophecy, and 1.2 is pretty much ready to go. We still need Logistics techs, and someone reported that the minors are still building trade goods. There have been some reports about the time to complete technology being inaccurate (which would be in the base Gal Civ as well), but I now can't find the threads where people talked about this in enough detail for me to do something about it. That means I'm going to have to create a post, and so I'm probabl...

Hi guys.. this is just a policy I need to formulate... Its just basic client service... and as the Average Joe, it could be good to get some of your input if you have any... BAM!!! Issue Resolution Working in the service industry, we are often challenged with clients who may be unhappy or dissatisfied with our service or product. This can be a result of human error, miscommunication, or specific clients having certain needs which may have been overlooked. We need to have policies a...
I didn't accomplsih as much as I had hoped today. Lots of busy work. As my friend and co-worker Kris would say, too many things in the oven. Did spend some time on The Political Machine. Now that it's up and running on my laptop (stayed up until 4am on that and still had to go into the office) I'll be able to work on it more. JoeUser is up to nearly 80 new articles today. I am hoping we will be able to officially launch the site in early March. Still a few more features we gotta have in th...
I didn't realize that the newer laptop didn't have Visual Stuido. In fact, it doesn't have development tools on it in general! Having gotten in at 11am I spent most of the day pouring through email, getting DesktopX 2.1 announced, and taking care of various "biz stuff". At 9pmish I got home and started on getting the laptop ready which included downloading the 200+ meg DirectX 9 SDK. Good grief it's huge. And stupid too as it it's just a bit self extracting EXE with an installer in it. Woul...

I keep a notebook by my computers so that I can make quick reminder notes of things I need to work on, or look into, etc. Unfortunately, my handwriting sucks, and I fill up a page quickly. So I made myself an excel spreadsheet similar to my bug report tracking spreadsheets, and that's been working a bit better. Rather than checking stuff off, I move it to another sheet in the workbook. The workbook has 4 sheets in it: a to do list, a needs testing list, a done list, and a shelved list. The t...
