I spend a lot of time looking at the sales of PC games and we are quickly moving away from the traditional individual purchase model and towards subscription based platforms.

Fundamentally, most titles simply don’t generate enough sales to justify engineering support post release. This is a relatively new issue that will be interesting to see how it gets resolved by studios.

It’s no secret forums have seen a serious decline in recent years versus social media. Which is a shame because social media is so impersonal.

I think this year I’m going to focus more time hanging out here.
A new beginning

The story of Galactic Civilizations is the story of the future.  Our future.

Galactic Civilizations III is actually our 6th edition that provides you with the framework to tell that story (we made 3 OS/2 versions back in the 1990s).

With each iteration, we get a little bit better at it. Sometimes, like when we change engines, it takes awhile to surpass where we were in previous editions.  For instance, the OS/2 version of Galactic Civilizations was, in mo...

The government form said I had to pick a clinic and a doctor,

so I wasted my time researching clinics and doctors and picked them.

When I got the card I found out the government picked a different clinic and doctor then I did.

Here are some questions for Bernie. Do I have to smoke pot or can I smoke tobacco and can I afford to anymore?

Can I drink a soda today and what size, diet or sugared? How many miles can I drive today?

How about some fast food? Can I eat a steak? After eatin...
Greetings!

Sorry I have been so quiet lately on GalCiv stuff.  We've had our noses to the grindstone on the new expansion pack, GalCiv III: Retribution and we haven't had much time to come up for air.

I'll be sharing lots of stuff shortly now that things are starting to reach screen-shot worthiness.  For today, though, I want to just talk a bit about the background story that I built, over decades for Galactic Civilizations and why Retribution is so important from that perspectiv...
Greetings!

Star Control has definitely been the most...dramatic franchise we've ever worked on.  No doubt the diabolical work of the Crimson Corporation indeed!

So what's next? What's happening?  Right now, we're working on Part 2 of Earth Rising which revolves around the Lexites.  You might ask, what is the process for creating these?  Well, broadly speaking it goes like this:General story.  What is the overall meaning for the story.Design up the quests for p...
Greetings!

Lots of exciting things happening with Ashes of the Singularity.  With Star Control: Origins released, we've been able to give Ashes some new attention and I wanted to use this post to update you on where we are.

Engine porting

Under the game is the game engine which in Ashes 1.0 was pure Nitrous.  These days, we have taken the Nitrous engine and integrated all the cool stuff we've developed over the years (Game engine wise) to create a game-specific engine we call ...

My old 500GB Western Digital has been showing signs of dying so I went out and got a 256GB Mushkin Source SSD. What a joke. I see no improved boot up speeds on Windows 7, nor any other improvements over my old drive. Boot times and app start up times are the same. I have made sure TRIM is enabled and the SSD checks out OK. Muskin offer no software to help with speed on the SSD. Thoughts? I'm confused...

I edited my original post about my hp being back up and running, it isn't. First it slowed down to a crawl and I get a stop code that says unmountable boot volume. I tried booting it up with the USB hoping to repair it. No go as the repair screen never came up. Now I'm trying to reinstall Windows and the first time it came back with an error message that says cannot install Windows on specified drive partition. I did not have this problem before. I'm literally at my wits end with this. Refurbish...

This morning I turned on the laptop and it took twenty five minutes to boot. Started last night with all three browsers, Chrome, Edger and IE freezing and refusing to work. On the desktop...everything slowed to a crawl. Five minutes or better just to open explorer. Then a blue screen comes up and says unmountable boot volume. Googled it and followed the instructions. Boot from the USB choose repair system, that never came up. Hard shut down wait a few seconds and hit the power button again. I pr...

Test
This past week, Activision executives, Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford sent DMCA notices to Steam and GOG demanding the removal of Star Control: Origins on the grounds that Star Control: Origins violates unspecified copyrights of theirs.

Finally, after many months of requesting from them what, specifically, in our game that they they believe they own they finally posted a table outlining their justification for taking down our game.

For those not familiar with copyright, here is a reall...
